Matt Bento

Matt is a life long outdoor enthusiast, dedicating the last decade of his life to climbing, skiing, and spending time in the backcountry. Hailing from the piedmont of North Carolina, he earned his Bachelor's in Anthropology from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro before driving to Yosemite, CA and has since never looked back. He is a long time freelance writer for Gearlab, having assessed over 250 products in 20 categories over the last 4 years to support his climbing pursuits and his volunteer position on Yosemite Search and Rescue. When it comes to tech in the outdoors, Matt enthusiastically embraces products that improve communication and safety, as well as apps and devices that can track and analyze fitness. He is currently settled into a Senior Editor position with Gearlab in the Reno-Tahoe area, where he can be found exploring the local cliffs and trails whenever he gets the chance.
