Our Schick Xtreme 3 Original Sensitive Experience

Our first thoughts were a little on the skeptical side. Let's be real, you can buy tons of these things in bulk for a pretty low price. Our suspicions were confirmed when this razor only lasted about three shaves before hitting the can.

The first thing we noticed about the Schick was its weight. Its all-plastic design weighs next to nothing, so we had to get used to how it felt in our hands. Compared to the heavier cartridge and safety razors in our lineup, it felt odd to have almost nothing between our fingers. We'll admit that we actually liked its flexible razor head. It's a very simple design, but it effectively keeps this inexpensive razor in contact with the skin, contours to the face, and delivers a decent shave - at first. Those with thin hair liked this razor, but those with thicker beards never reached for it again.

Our Analysis and Test Results

Shave Quality

This three-blade design performed okay during our shave tests. For light to medium beards, we think the Schick Xtreme 3 Original can handle the task, but those with heavier whiskers should definitely be wary.

Overall, the end result was usually smooth enough to be presentable at work, but it often took several passes to get all the stubble gone—which isn't great if you're in a rush to get to work on time.

One thing we really liked was the flexible razor head. It's one of the most flexible we've tested, and we feel it does a great job of keeping the blades in contact with the skin.

Glide and Comfort

For an inexpensive disposable, we feel the Xtreme 3 Original glides on the neck, but less so on our face. We experienced more snags when shaving our chins and upper lips. Unfortunately, the Xtreme 3 left us with a slight amount of razor burn.

Handle Ergonomics

The Xtreme 3 has a better-than-average handle when directly compared against other disposables in its price range. We liked its textured finger pads and hourglass shape, which flares nicely at the bottom. For being all-plastic, it's actually quite comfortable to hold.

Build Quality and Durability

We ordered a box of 12 and paid just under two dollars per razor. In terms of construction quality, the Xtreme 3 Original is mass-produced and very basic. It weighs just one ounce, so there's really not much to this model. That said, the entire razor body is molded with a honeycomb-like structure that gives it a fair amount of flex while also making it stronger than a standard model.

Ease of Cleaning and Blade Replacement

The Xtreme 3 doesn't rinse perfectly. The backside of the razor head (where it connects to the handle) is surrounded by plastic reinforcements. These take up a lot of space and tend to block the flow of water. The result was a less-than-perfect rinse, or the need to rinse more often.

Should You Buy the Schick Xtreme 3 Original Sensitive?

If you have a super heavy beard, you'll definitely want to pass on the Schick Sensitive. If you have light to medium whiskers, it might work. But in any case, you can find better, and sometimes even cheaper.
