We like the WOLFBOX MegaVolt24 most for its powerful performance, excellent battery capacity, and large screen.
WOLFBOX rates this model at 4,000 peak amps and capable of starting big 10-liter gas or diesel engines. During our jump start testing, vehicles roared to life as if they were connected to brand-new batteries. There's nothing like a quick start to inspire confidence.
The big LCD screen shows you immediately what percentage of battery capacity you have left, which we appreciate.
In one test, we jump started a 2010 Ford Explorer with a completely drained battery three times in a row. Each time the MegaVolt24 only used 3 percent of its battery. Every vehicle and jump starting situation is different based on the vehicle's components and even ambient temperature, but we trust this jump starter to make multiple jump starts without needing recharged.
The fit and finish is excellent, inspiring trust. When we had to jump an SUV in a light rain, we appreciated its IP64 waterproof/dustproof rating.
The cables, clamps, and connection to the device's port is solid and trustworthy. The LED light is bright with a nice wide-angle output that makes it easy to see underneath the hood. It includes strobe options for safety.
When it's time to jump start a vehicle out in the wild, it can be hard to figure out what different indicator lights mean. This is where the LCD screen makes a big difference.
We like the big green “START” icon that lights up when it's connected and ready to use. The MegaVolt24 built-in reverse polarity protection helps make sure you don't accidentally attempt to use it incorrectly.
Dislikes
The WOLFBOX MegaVolt24 is nearly perfect, but we do have a couple of minor quibbles. The clamps are a bit stubby, which can make it hard to get a good bite in some situations where battery terminals are covered with additional component connections and protective plastic flaps.
If you have less traditional jump starting needs, for instance, off-road UTVs or some lawn mowers, the battery terminals are sometimes hard to get to and narrower clamps can make connections easier.
The MegaVolt24 is not a multi-purpose device. It's made for jump starting and doesn't have a built-in air compressor. However, the 65-watt USB-C port and large 24,000 mAh battery makes it handy as an emergency power source for charging phones or even boosting a laptop in a pinch.
While we very much appreciate the included case, we're not fans of the easy pressing “On” button on the top of the unit. If you place the jump starter face up in the case, the cables and clamps can push through the mesh from the side of the case, possibly turning the unit on again and again as you drive around. Over months, this could prematurely drain the battery. We've been burned before by on buttons that can get pushed unintentionally, so we usually place this one upside down with the manual underneath it to create a gap so the buttons are less likely to get pushed.
Should You Buy the WOLFBOX MegaVolt24?
While you might not need to start a monster 10-liter engine often, the extra power and battery capacity of the WOLFBOX MegaVolt24 make it a great safety companion. It can jump small cars with ease, and if you need to be the hero for someone who has a bigger vehicle, it can get the job done. It's a high-quality, easy-to-use jump starter that's one of our favorites of all time.
What Other Jump Starters Should You Consider?
If pure power and a big battery capacity are critical, the NOCO Boost X GBX155 is our top recommendation for large engines. It's bigger and heavier and features longer cables with awesome clamps, but it doesn't come with a good carrying case. If you're not worried about 10-liter engines, the WOLFBOX MegaVolt16 Air can boost up to 8-liter engines plus it includes a built-in air compressor that will let you inflate tires. We're fans of the versatility for sure.
