Nick Miley's path to review editor at TechGearLab was meandering but informative. Throughout life, Nick has always been a tinkerer; tearing apart and reassembling electronics, clothing and outdoor gear to satisfy his curiosity and to suit his needs. For better or worse, he has also had a habit of tinkering with ideas. As such, he has pursued an omnifarious freelance career with subject matter ranging from sports to history; from scientific research to consumer product reviews. Helping to inform these investigations is a Bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley in Classic Civilizations and a Master's degree from the University of Nevada, Reno in Environmental Sciences. Above all, his education has produced a conviction that diligent, reproducible research and careful writing are the keystones of cognition, advancement and ultimately well-being.
From an early age, Nick has felt compelled to create with the written word. Despite being raised in a family where captivating storytelling was a necessity for attention at crowded, often raucous, dinners, he eventually learned that professional writing is rarely a solitary affair. Rather, producing good copy is a team effort. It is the capturing of a group's collective work on a project and conveying that information, idea or perspective in a clear and concise manner to the reader that now motivates him.
In an effort to unwind after a week in front of a computer, Nick enjoys the technical challenges and adventure of long backcountry ski tours in the winter and all day mountain bike rides in the summer. Occasionally, when the mood strikes him, he'll even climb a craggy peak.
