Tracki GPS Review

This all-around tracker offers the most versatility when it comes to protecting your personal belongings. The Tracki's customization is unmatched, as it comes with accessories that can turn it into a magnet, clip, or lanyard and includes several programmable buttons.

Finding Keys

No matter where you leave your keys, the Tracki GPS will help you get back to them. Since this tracker runs on GPS, you can locate your keys across the world — so long as they're left in an area with good cell reception. For even more precision, I use the tracker's beep function to provide audible help in locating where I left my keys. Besides tracking, this device has an SOS button that alerts designated contacts that you're in trouble, as well as two extra buttons for more functionality.

If you want to add GPS tracking to your keys, you must accept that the Tracki GPS adds a lot of bulk and weight to your keyring. When you lose your keys, you get an accurate starting point since this tracker's companion app offers you a specific address. Once you get to the prescribed address, it's still hard to find something small like your keys, and you only have beeps to better locate it. While Tracki lets you set up geofences, it's not as useful as separation alerts that let you know when you leave your keys behind.

Finding Luggage and Bags

To keep extra tabs on your backpack or luggage, you can chuck the Tracki GPS inside and start tracking. It's light enough to go unnoticed in a bag and shouldn't add any significant weight to checked luggage. With GPS tracking, the tracker won't have trouble keeping up with you on international trips. If your bag or luggage gets lost, you can scroll through the extensive location history tracking to see the path traveled and even point out where your baggage is to the appropriate airport staff. If GPS isn't enough, you can take advantage of this tracker's Bluetooth and Wi-Fi tracking since your lost bag or luggage will often be somewhere where it has access to either option.

Even though the Tracki GPS can locate your lost bag down to which side of a specific building, you might run into trouble once inside said location. Unlike a car or bicycle you can easily spot, a backpack can still be hard to find since it's much smaller. You can use the beeps to better distinguish where to search, but depending on how thick your luggage is or the surrounding background noise, it could be a challenge to hear. Unlike tracking a pet or vehicle, the alerts for speeding and when something starts moving feel unnecessary with bags or luggage.

Finding a Pet

When it comes to tracking a pet, the Tracki GPS gives you incredible insight thanks to its accuracy. Even when you're not around, you can still get a detailed picture of your dog's daily habits with a location history that can outline a date and hourly range. All of these features are even more important when your dog gets lost, since you can figure out a pattern of most-visited locations to check for your lost dog. I'm a big fan of the tracker's accuracy — it can distinguish which side of a building to look for your lost dog. If you want to avoid your dog from getting lost in the first place, you can also set up geofences and accompanying alerts whenever your dog enters or leaves a safe zone. In my testing, I replaced the tracker's default backing with a clip attachment that stays secure on a dog collar.

In the worst-case scenario, your lost dog may wander off into the woods where there's very little cell reception. Under these conditions, the Tracki GPS loses significant effectiveness since the GPS tracking is rendered useless, and you have to switch to the tracker's Bluetooth capabilities to locate your dog. You can also ping the tracker to beep, but these sounds sometimes didn't register and felt too quiet, in my opinion. When attaching the tracker to collars, it feels appropriately sized for medium- to large-sized dogs, but could get in the way with smaller dog collars.

Finding Bikes and Vehicles

For more peace of mind with expensive cars or bicycles, the Tracki GPS can keep you updated with a precise location up to every 30 seconds and a location history that dates back up to a month. If someone does steal your vehicle, this GPS tracker provides a specific address to track it down and can even tell if it starts moving again. As a preventative measure, you can set up geofences where the tracker will alert you whenever it enters or exits a specific zone. Setting up the Tracki GPS for a vehicle is easy — you can replace the device's back with a strong magnet that's secure enough to stay put on a car's frame while driving on an interstate highway. Alternatively, the tracker is small enough to tuck into a bicycle's storage or a car's glove compartment, where it can go unnoticed by thieves.

Depending on how much reassurance you want, you can set up the Tracki GPS to update its location with several options between every 30 seconds and every four hours. These subscription costs can add up quickly, especially if you prefer more frequent updates. On the other hand, going with the most inexpensive option means you won't get a very accurate location history timeline, which could be the difference between finding your lost vehicle or not. As much as I appreciate the inclusion of a beep function, the sound is hard to hear from outside a car when you stash the tracker inside a car's glove compartment or center console.

Usability

Since the Tracki GPS runs on a GPS network, you can use it to track your valuables across the world with a high degree of accuracy. The tracker itself is just a simple square shape, but Tracki includes several accessories to better suit what you're trying to track. You can go from using a clip attachment to a clamp on a dog collar to a magnet back that sticks to anything metal. For extra practicality, there's an SOS button that alerts emergency contacts and is flanked by two extra customizable buttons. Beyond its safeguarding capabilities, this tracker offers more insight into driving habits with speeding alerts.

Like any GPS tracker, the Tracki GPS doesn't work as well in areas with poor cell reception. To work around this drawback, the tracker can switch to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth tracking, which isn't as accurate. Since there's an integrated SIM card inside this tracker, you have to pay subscription fees to keep it active. In general, GPS trackers tend to be larger than their Bluetooth counterparts, so it can add some burden when attached to keys. However, it doesn't take up much space when tucked into a car's center console or thrown into a backpack.

Should You Buy the Tracki GPS?

For someone who needs to keep tabs on an expensive vehicle or bicycle, the Tracki GPS adds an essential layer of security. Not only can this GPS tracker constantly update a stolen car's position, but you can use it to see how safe someone is driving. Even though the Tracki GPS has vehicle-specific features, the tracker works just as well to ensure pets don't get lost and your luggage is exactly where you left it while you're flying. This tracker isn't ideal for pairing with keys since it adds a lot of weight, but it still gets the job done.

What Other Tracker Should You Consider?

If you're looking for a more rugged GPS tracker to slap onto the outside of your car, consider the LandAirSea 54 that has a powerful built-in magnet. Unlike the Tracki GPS, this alternative tracker doesn't require any accessories to make it weatherproof out of the box. However, this more robust build means this tracker is significantly heavier and larger than the Tracki option.
