Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
The Sebo Airbelt is a premium option that has excellent filtration and overall decent cleaning results. We loved the motorized brush head that made transitions between floor types a breeze.
Carpet Performance
The Sebo Airbelt K3 Premium is one of the best canister vacuums on carpet. On low pile (most common carpet type) it picked up 90% of the mess we created. It was able to clean up most of the smaller debris, leaving behind larger items like Cheerios. Still, its performance was quite impressive.
We didn't have the same luck on high pile carpets (shag rugs), where we cleaned roughly 60% of the mess. The rolling brush head has a height adjuster, which allows the vacuum to move well. However, we still didn't have enough clearance for larger debris piles. With more passes, this vacuum can clean up almost everything, but you need to devote the time and a focused approach.
Hardwood Performance
While most canister vacuums perform well on hardwood, the Sebo left us disappointed. We found the parquet brush head awkward to use. We had to pick it up and drop it over larger messes, instead of the normal back-and-forth motions. We found the clearance of the brush head to be too low for larger debris. In our evaluation, it picked up 89% of our mess, which isn't terrible, but most other canister vacuums can clean around 99%.
We also tried the rolling brush head on hardwood as it has an option to turn off the brush roll. We still weren't impressed with this, and it wasn't able to clean as well as the parquet head. Along baseboards, we were also left wanting more. It scattered a portion of the coffee grounds as we approached the wall head-on and running parallel to the wall.
Ease of Use
While the Airbelt K3 Premium measures in at 12.7 pounds for the whole unit, it moves around like a much lighter vacuum. Pushing the motorized head was surprisingly easy, and the swivel head was a pleasure to use, letting us get to tricky places with ease. The large 3-liter dustbin bag holds enough to last a few cleans, and it is very easy to change. Our only complaints for ease of use were surrounding the attachments. The upholstery tool attaches to the end of the crevice tool, which is somewhat long and awkward to use. Plus, the upholstery tool wasn't the most effective at cleaning our throw pillow.
Pet Hair
You can get by with the Sebo if you have one pet that doesn't shed a ton. However, with any more or a super fluffy dog, you'll need a vacuum better equipped for pet hair. On our low pile carpets, the vacuum cleaned 68% of the pet hair we dispersed. This isn't horrible, and it managed to pick up most of the large clumps. However, we flipped over the brushroll and found all the longer hair wrapped around it. The same was true for our high pile test, where the vacuum picked up 64% of the hair.
Filtration
The Sebo Airbelt K3 Premium is one of the best at keeping yucky particles out of the air. It earned an excellent rating in this metric, releasing very few particles back into the air. In our tests, we measured an average peak of 30 µm. For reference, anything under 75 is excellent. This means that anyone with allergies can rest assured that the vacuum won't be releasing many particles back into the air.
Should You Buy the Sebo Airbelt K3 Premium?
The Sebo Airbelt is a worthy option if you have a lot of carpet in your home. Its large dustbin is convenient, as you won't need to change it as often. Its filtration results are also impressive. However, we don't recommend this for households with a lot of hardwood or shedding pets.
What Other Canister Vacuums Should You Consider?
The Miele Classic C1 Pure Suction Powerline is similar to the Sebo in many ways, but it offers better results on hardwood and with cleaning pet hair. Additionally, the well-rounded vacuum is about half the price. For a much more budget-friendly shopper, we suggest the Eureka Mighty Mite. Though its filtration results aren't great, this little vacuum knocked it out of the park on hardwood and with pet hair.
