Our Verdict

The Breville 3X Bluicer Pro is a one-two punch of blending and juicing power. It's a versatile, multipurpose machine capable of producing rich and velvety smoothies as well as a glass of fresh juice. Such versatility often comes with sacrifice, but aside from its inability to properly heat soup, this blender can do it all and do it well. We thoroughly enjoyed tasting all of the blended beverages and purees made with this device. Plus, it proved to be easy to use and to clean.

Our Analysis and Test Results

More capable than the typical blender, the Breville 3X Bluicer Pro could be considered a hero kitchen appliance. It does the work of multiple machines in one. With 1100 watts of power on demand, it can pulverize ice without skipping a beat, blend buttery smooth frozen beverages, and puree a creamy soup. Plus, the Bluicer Pro comes with a juicer attachment and pulp collector so you can squeeze every drop of liquid nectar from your favorite fruits and veggies.

Smoothies

We used the Bluicer Pro's Green Smoothie preset, which churned and shredded the mixture for 65 seconds. Overall, the green smoothie had a few small pieces of kale that weren't completely pulverized, though it was wonderfully pleasant to drink with a luscious, cream-like mouthfeel.

The seeds weren't completely crushed after blending our berry smoothie, and were noticeable when taste-testing. But, it didn't require any chewing or crunching as most of the seeds were at least partially broken. The rich texture and strong mixed berry flavor were a hit with taste testers, though it would have been even better if the seeds had been fully pulverized.

The Bluicer Pro made a lovely green smoothie with a soft and creamy texture. Yum!

Pureeing

Unfortunately, this unit doesn't come with a tamper, which is necessary for nut butter. Luckily, we were able to improvise with a silicon spatula. After adding more oil during the process, the nut butter reached its zenith at the four-minute mark. The final product had a creamy, even texture that was easy to pour from the pitcher and spread over bread. It tasted like a rich nut butter should, but it was a tad oily since we had to add in a bit extra to get a proper whirling motion.

We tried our hand at making a tomato soup as well. This blender doesn't have a Soup preset, so we manually blended the mix. To do this, we started slow and worked the machine up to higher speeds. Since the Bluicer only lets you blend for 60 seconds in manual mode, we had to go through six one-minute cycles to completely puree the soup. This was a bit annoying, but it still worked just fine. The resulting soup was pureed to perfection with an amazingly smooth consistency. Not a chunk of tomato, garlic, shallot, or anything was present even after we poured the soup through a sieve to check.

The process of turning nuts into nut butter is very satisfying. The Bluicer Pro did well, but we did have to tamp down the nut mix a couple of times.

The Breville 3X Bluicer Pro doesn't have a soup heating function. It's not meant to heat soup or anything else. And to be fully transparent, our soup blending time would have been several minutes shorter had we not been trying to heat up the soup by blending it. The friction alone raised the soup temperature to 111°F, but that's not nearly an appropriate serving temperature. Notably, though, the nut butter reached 143°F, likely due to the much thicker consistency.

Frozen Drinks

The Bluicer Pro has a nifty Frozen Cocktail preset, which we used to blend our frozen beverages. A single run with this preset took just 45 seconds, and in that time, the blender broke down the ice to a slushy consistency that retained a bit of icy texture. The ice crystals still had a touch of crunch to them, but they were small enough that they weren't a bother.

It was a thick mixture where the ice would likely hold up for longer in the sun than if it were super finely blended. That said, it was evenly blended throughout. No larger ice chunks remained, and it was enjoyable to sip.

Controls

Breville's design philosophy often ensures a clean, easy-to-understand interface with controls that simply make sense. Fortunately, that also rings true for the Breville 3X Bluicer Pro.

The Bluicer Pro has five useful and clearly labeled presets: Green Smoothie, Smoothie, Pulse/Ice Crush, Auto Clean, and Frozen Cocktail. Each signals the machine to run for a preset length of time at precisely engineered speed settings to obtain optimal performance for the given task. This makes using the Bluicer a cakewalk for its most common kitchen tasks.

Aside from the presets, there is also an On/Off button, a Pause/Cancel button, and a knob that is used to control the blending or juicing speed. When operating manually without a preset, the blender will turn off after running for 60 seconds. While this was a bit of an annoyance when making soup that took several minutes to puree, it can also be a benefit, as there is no need to babysit the machine if you want to blend a drink and then walk away to focus on another task. All in all, the intuitive controls and thoughtful presets make for a supremely user-friendly interface.

Ease of Cleaning

Despite having all of the parts needed to be both a blender and a juicer, the Bluicer Pro is extraordinarily easy to clean. All parts are dishwasher safe except the motor and the food pusher (one of the juicer parts). Even the personal cup and base attachment can be put on a dishwasher's top rack.

The blades aren't removable, but they're not too difficult to get under if you need to handwash. But you'll rarely need to handwash anyway, even if you don't have a dishwasher. That's because the Auto Clean preset on the Bluicer Pro works flawlessly—with a little warm water and a drop of soap, the machine does a fantastic job at cleaning itself.

Should You Buy the Breville 3X Bluicer Pro?

If you're into juicing and blending smoothies, the Breville 3X Bluicer Pro is a fantastic combo machine that'll save space on your counter and save you from purchasing two expensive appliances. It's a great blender in its own right, but if you don't desire the juicer capabilities, then there are other blenders to consider that can do an even better job of blending and pureeing at similar price points.

A Bluicer, Not a Juicer

While the Bluicer Pro can serve as both a blender and a juicer, and may come in handy for those looking to maximize counter space, a jack-of-all-trades isn't always the best option. If you're in the market for a dedicated juicer, it's worth comparing this model against other top-rated options in our juicer review.

What Other Blenders Should You Consider?

As a combination blender and juicer, the Breville 3X Bluicer Pro is the appliance to get. However, if you're just looking for a solid blender that can make magnificent frozen beverages, dips, soups, and nut butters, then look into the Breville Super Q. It has the same well-crafted design philosophy of the Bluicer Pro. But, Breville honed in on perfecting its blending prowess, rather than focusing on making it a multipurpose machine. For instance, the Super Q pureed immaculate nut butter in 90 seconds during our testing, while the Bluicer's was only acceptable after four minutes of blending. But if you're realizing that these high-end blenders are a bit out of your budget, the Nutribullet Combo still does wonders at a fraction of the price—it can make a blended cocktail with a smooth texture just as well as the Bluicer.
