The Best iPhone 14 Cases for 2024
In search of a case for your iPhone 14? After studying the details of more than 50 models, we purchased the top 10 to analyze side-by-side. We began by recording the time it took to unbox and install each case and noted any difficulties we might have encountered along the way. We then gathered some objective data by measuring and weighing each model, followed by a close examination of the case buttons and how they interface with the phone. To measure grip, we devised a tilt test to measure the maximum angle each case can hold a phone to a hard surface and noted their drop test certifications. Last but not least, we used the cases for weeks at a time in our everyday lives, toting them along whether we were mountain biking, working in the office, lounging at the beach, or attending a show. Our in-depth analysis will help guide you to the iPhone 14 case that is ideal for your budget and lifestyle.

Its rugged protection and stylish design make the OtterBox iPhone 14 Commuter Series Case a top-tier choice. This model is a standout option in the smartphone case market due to its durability, functional accessibility, and comfortable grip. It is easy to hold and use your iPhone without discomfort due to its smooth (but not slippery) surface, which strikes a good balance between grip and comfort. Using the charging port cover was easy and kept dirt and debris out, which was helpful with frequent pocket visits. User experience remains responsive and enjoyable thanks to the tactility of the buttons. We love the Otterbox's raised edges around the camera and screen. It offers additional protection against scratches and damage. Its polycarbonate outer shell combined with a synthetic rubber inner layer provides a balance between protection and aesthetics.
With the OtterBox Commuter, we found it hard to find any flaws. While the cost is higher than some models and installation requires a little finesse, it is well worth it for the quality and peace of mind it provides. This case is a worthwhile investment for anyone seeking a reliable, durable, and aesthetically pleasing case for their iPhone. If grip is more of a concern for you than overall bomb-proof protection, check out the Speck Presidio2.
Weight: 1.4 ounces | Dimensions: 6.02 x 3.03 x 0.51 inches
REASONS TO BUY
Simple design
Easy to use
Lightweight
REASONS TO AVOID
Easy to smudge and scuff back
It is hard to find a better value for money than the ESR Air Armor. It is undoubtedly a top contender if you are looking for a reliable case that provides protection and style that won't break the bank. This case features a comfortable grip and slim design, making it easy to hold and use the iPhone for extended periods. A smooth, clear acrylic back ensures a secure grip and comfortable handling experience. A raised edge around the screen and camera offers additional protection against scratches and scuffs. The tactile response of the buttons held strong throughout use. Non-slip coating also prevents the case from slipping out of your hands. With its shock-resistant design and lightweight construction, this case is ideal for everyday use. One of the only flaws was that the clear back smudged and scuffed easily, with constant use requiring extra cleaning.
As with many clear-back plastic options, it scratches very easily. In just a few uses, this one got quite scuffed. Although we appreciate the high level of protection, seeing scratches on the case is always disappointing. Despite a couple of minor drawbacks, this case provides a high level of protection and design for your smartphone at an unbeatable price. For those who are planning on taking their phones on rugged adventures, it's hard to beat the protection offered by the Otterbox Defender.
Weight: 1.5 ounces | Dimensions: 6 x 3 x 0.50 inches
REASONS TO BUY
Innovative grip pattern
Simple design
Offers superior protection
REASONS TO AVOID
Finicky to install
Holds dirt
Undoubtedly, the Speck Presidio 2 lives up to its name as it provides excellent grip. This is thanks to its raised rubber ridges and inverted grip pattern on the sides and back. Your phone will remain secure in hand, reducing the likelihood of accidental drops. If you find yourself wanting nice things but on the clumsy side, this is a great case for you and your peace of mind. Its combination of hard polycarbonate and soft rubber materials enhances its durability and gives it a sophisticated appearance. Despite its rugged level of protection, the Presidio2 Grip has a slim profile, making it easy to carry around in your pocket. In addition to its sleek appearance, its contrasting textures make it a great accessory for those of us who use our iPhones daily. This model also features an antimicrobial coating to protect against germs. Its raised edges also provide added protection from drops and bumps.
One downside of its sticky nature was that the grip pattern seemed prone to getting clogged with dust and dirt during testing. That being said, most of the cases tested attracted dirt and hair — this has extra nooks for it to hide in. The Speck Presidio2 Grip Case combines functionality with a stylish, non-slip design. With its superior grip, slim profile, and durability, it's a worthy investment for active and on-the-go iPhone 14 users seeking both style and substance in their phone protection. If grip is more of an afterthought for you, but you still like the idea of your phone staying put on hard surfaces, the OtterBox Commuter Series has a few sections of raised rubber on the back of the case that add grip but won't make your phone stick to the inside of your pants pocket.
Weight: 1 ounce | Dimensions: 5.9 x 2.9 x 0.5 inches
REASONS TO BUY
Slim and stylish design
Easy installation and removal
Seamless Magsafe compatibility
REASONS TO AVOID
Durability concerns
Limited camera protection
The Apple iPhone 14 Case with MagSafe offers a stylish and elegant look with a low-profile design that takes the concept of a protective case to a new level. Catering to those who value a minimalist and sleek aesthetic, this case offers an unmatched blend of subtlety and functionality. With precise cutouts and contoured edges, the case fits the iPhone 14 like a second skin. In addition to its slim profile, the lightweight construction of this case ensures a feather-light feel in hand. This case is made from high-quality materials and is designed to be shockproof and shatter-resistant. It even held its own when put through the scratch test. It also has a built-in magnet for MagSafe charging, making it the perfect accessory for any iPhone 14 user.
The Phone 14 Case with MagSafe prioritizes a slim profile, which unfortunately compromises the extent of protection offered to the screen and camera. Despite the presence of raised edges, they are relatively minimal, making these crucial areas more prone to scratches or damage when placed face down or impacted. Even though the case's matte finish is visually appealing, there are concerns about its long-term durability. If you aren't concerned with having a brand name case that is MagSafe enabled, we recommend the highly affordable ESR Air Armor.

Port covers and dust protection
Holster functionality
REASONS TO AVOID
Bulky
Difficult to install and remove
The Otterbox Defender Series iPhone 14 Case is your device's rugged and renowned guardian. This tried and true case is designed to provide ultimate protection in demanding environments. This case features a multi-layered structure that maximizes protection against drops, impacts, and scratches. Individuals who prioritize extreme protection in demanding conditions should consider purchasing this case. Your iPhone 14 is protected from the harshest conditions by this impenetrable fortress. Port covers that seal all ports and openings protect your device from dust, dirt, and debris. In addition to serving as a belt clip, the included holster doubles as a convenient kickstand, allowing hands-free viewing in both portrait and landscape modes. An inner shell reinforced with an outer slipcover provides a sturdy foundation for protection, and the raised edge on the camera helps prevent the lens from getting scratched.
The Defender's reputation as one of the most effective protective cases for iPhone 14 is well deserved. However, the case's bulkiness, difficulty in installation and removal, and potential interference with wireless charging may pose minor inconveniences for some users. Overall, this case is an excellent investment for safeguarding your iPhone 14 if you prioritize protection without minding a bit of extra heft. If you're more concerned with style than protection, it's hard to go wrong with the Apple iPhone 14 Case with MagSafe.

We recommend the UAG Monarch Pro Series Case for anyone who works in construction, logistics, or field services. This case is the perfect combination of rugged protection and a stylish, low-profile design. It's also a great option if you're an outdoor adventurer, hiker, or traveler looking to keep your phone safe. The case features textured surfaces and thoughtfully designed contours, providing an exceptional grip that minimizes accidental drops. Its ergonomic design ensures a comfortable fit in hand, making it a practical choice for extended usage. Including a metal alloy frame not only adds to the case's robustness but also lends a premium touch to the overall design. This metal frame provides extra reinforcement, enhancing the case's durability and protection against impacts. It claims to have a tested drop protection of 25ff, nearly double that of every other model we tested. Its military-grade standard of protection and durable construction make it a reliable choice for those requiring heavy-duty defense for their iPhone 14 in challenging work conditions.
The UAG Monarch Pro Series is a powerful guardian for working professionals in the construction or industrial profession and outdoor enthusiasts who want protection and a sleek design. However, the bulk, weight, and potential interference with wireless charging are trade-offs to consider. It also boasts the highest price tag in our review. However, if you prioritize maximum defense and style as a working industrial professional or want to feel extra rugged outdoors, this case is a compelling option for safeguarding your iPhone 14. If you know that you don't need this much protection and you want to save some cash, the highly affordable ESR Air Armor is a great option.

How We Test iPhone 14 Cases
Our review was broken down into hands-on evaluations to uncover the strengths and weaknesses of each iPhone 14 case. In addition to carefully reviewing the manufacturer's specifications, we also tested each model for scratch resistance, and we tested grip using an inclinometer to measure the angle at which each case would slide off a veneered surface. We cross-referenced their claims to ensure the companies were honest by weighing and measuring every model. Each case was timed to determine how long it takes to install and remove, and any extra features included were carefully considered. As a final step, we asked a panel of judges what they thought of each model's overall style and aesthetic value. During our side-by-side comparison, over 100 tests were conducted on each product.
We break down the overall score into four key metrics:
Protection (40% of overall score weighting)
Portability (25% weighting)
Design (25% weighting)
Ease of Use (10% weighting)

In her free time, you can find her biking and skiing the mountains of Tahoe (with her iPhone and case in tow, of course!). The comprehensive results below outline the overall performance of the best iPhone 14 cases available today.
Analysis and Test Results
The four primary traits we looked at when reviewing these iPhone 14 cases were protection, portability, design, and ease of use. Our scoring system's metrics are weighted based on their importance in determining whether you should choose a product. We compiled our findings based on hours of objective testing from various sources and weeks of actual use in the real world. Our goal is to save you the headache of spending hours sifting through thousands of products by crunching the numbers, testing subjective opinions, and analyzing the findings.
What's the Best Value?
When determining the value of each case, we took into account the price versus its overall performance, as well as any special features or elements each model offered. If you're shopping for an iPhone 14 case on a tight budget, it's difficult to beat the ESR Air Armor Case. If you are a working industrial professional or want a rugged-looking case in the outdoors, the UAG Monarch PRO is worth the extra expense. The award-winning OtterBox Commuter represents exceptional value when it comes to performance and price. The slightly bulkier, slightly heavier cousin of the Commuter is the OtterBox Defender. While a bit pricey, this case is very rugged. Another top contender is the Speck Presidio 2 Grip. It has superior grip and handling and offers a sleek design that is great for everyday use.
Protection
Besides assessing manufacturers' drop-test certifications, we test each case to determine the level of protection it provides. Each model's material construction is the focus of this metric. Each case is scratch-tested and inspected for features that protect the screen, ports, and camera.
Many manufacturers subject their toughest models to a series of tests for military drop-test certification. When a case is MIL-STD-810G 516.6-rated, it can withstand a certain degree of drops, vibrations, and shocks without damaging the phone. The models in our review that meet this standard are the OtterBox Defender, OtterBox Defender XT, OtterBox Commuter, ESR Air Armor Case, UAG Monarch Pro, and the UAG Metropolis LT.
The OtterBox Defender, Otterbox Defender XT, UAG Monarch Pro, and the Otterbox Commuter remained completely unscathed in our scratch test. The Speck Presidio 2 had very minimal signs of scratches. The Apple Clear Case and ESR Air Armor did very well in the scratch evaluation but offered the least shock protection, and the UAG Metropolis LT had visible signs of fraying on the back of the kevlar with just one pass of the flathead.
Portability
Each model is weighed and measured in our lab to analyze subtle bulk and weight differences. We note any features or accessories that facilitate or hinder portability. The thinnest, lightest, lowest-profile models get the highest marks as a percentage of the overall score.
The Apple Clear Case leads this metric. It weighs 1 ounce and adds almost no length, width, or thickness to your phone. The ESR Air is even lighter than the Apple Clear Case at just 0.94 ounces. However, it is slightly larger and has square corners, making it trickier to get in and out of tight pockets.
The UAG Monarch is very close to the same dimensions as the lightweight cases mentioned earlier. Unfortunately, it weighs significantly more due to the kevlar that makes it a leader in protection.
The OtterBox Defender is the biggest and heaviest model in our iPhone 14 case review. But we awarded it bonus portability points because it includes a handy plastic clip that lets you attach your phone to anything small enough to fit in the spring-loaded clasp.
Design
Regarding the overall design of the iPhone 14 case, there is a significant variation between models created for different lifestyles and uses. The standout models in this section are discussed in detail, including the subtle details contributing to their overall performance and style.
One of the models that stands out from the rest in design is the Otterbox Commuter Series. It offers military-certified protection and features a unique dual-layer style that feels comfortable in your hand and your pocket.
Those looking for a low-profile case that provides excellent protection should consider the Apple Clear Case. The case has one of the lowest profile designs in the lineup, adding minimal weight and bulk to your phone. Its smooth corners and simple design make it easy to slide in and out of a pocket.
Ease of Use
There are several important factors to consider regarding ease of use. Our testing revealed that some cases unbox quickly and install easily, while others require more assembly than we would like. In one case, you must remove any previously installed screen protectors, which takes longer than you want. In this step, we also asked a panel of judges to test the ease with which the buttons can be operated and slid into and out of a pants pocket. As a final step, we placed each model on a veneered countertop board and tilted it slowly until the phone slipped. Using an inclinometer, we were able to determine the maximum grip angle.
The buttons on a case must function properly since they are used frequently. We found it took considerable force to push some models' buttons, while others didn't affect their function at all. Port covers, silent toggle covers, and integrated screen covers all add protection but complicate overall phone operation and installation.
It is also important to consider the grip of a case. Grips are great for sticking to hard surfaces, but they tend to attract lint and dust and are harder to put in and take out of your pocket. However, A slick case is easier to pull out of your pocket but more likely to slide out of your hand or off a desk or table. It comes down to personal preference when deciding how much grip you want on your phone's case.
Conclusion
As far as iPhone 14 cases are concerned, the options seem to be almost limitless. Choosing the right product from thousands of options can be overwhelming. Our goal at GearLab is to do the dirty work for our readers so they won't have to. We provide you with an in-depth review of iPhone 14 cases that combines in-depth research with side-by-side comparisons, ensuring that you pick the right case for your needs, budget, and style.
