Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
The Force1 Scoot Toy is a family-friendly toy drone that is fun for all ages. The Scoot is made from resilient, flexible plastic and features a webbed shell design that makes it both safe and durable.
Image Quality
The Force1 Scoot Toy does not have a camera, so we were not able to evaluate it for image quality.
Flight Performance
The Force1 Scoot is a controllerless flight toy drone, and the only real way to control it is to use your hands to trigger the motion sensors to react and move away from you, kind of like herding a cow. To allow the Scoot to take flight, you first shake it three times and then place it on a flat surface to calibrate the internal gyro, then simply throw it up in the air,and it will take flight. The Scoot is quite hectic in flight, but it is fun for its intended purpose of entertainment. It's not capable of hovering in place, as it is designed to fly around aimlessly while you chase it to encourage it to go one direction or another with your proximity to it. The Scoot's motion sensors are not very responsive and can take several attempts to get it to respond to your movement or to make it flip. Stopping the Scoot is as simple as grabbing it out of the air and flipping it over 180 degrees, and it will cut power to the propellers.
Portability
The Force1 Scoot Toy is a very simple toy drone that doesn't have any folding or moving parts that aren't enclosed within the plastic webbed shell. The Scoot is quite small, measuring just under 4.5 inches in diameter, and it weighs only 32 grams, so transporting it is quite simple and convenient. We found that the Scoot fits great in pockets and can easily be placed inside a bag for transport without being damaged.
Usability
When it comes to usability, the Force1 Scoot Toy is the only drone in our testing lineup that doesn't have a removable battery, which is quite inconvenient and limits its use, especially because the battery life of the Scoot is only eight minutes. The included charging cable is really short and awkward to use, with the charging port being in a tough spot to access. It does come with four spare propellers in case yours get damaged, and fairly helpful instructions to get it up in the air. The entire body of the Scoot functions as a propeller guard, but small fingers might still be able to contact the propellers, and children, especially, should exercise caution when grabbing the Scoot while in flight. The sensors of the Scoot are not very responsive, but if you put your hands on the sides of it until the light turns blue, you can make it flip by swiping your hand underneath. It's best to attempt the flip while the Scoot has some altitude, as it drops quite a bit when performing the flip.
Should You Buy the Force1 Scoot Toy?
The Force1 Scoot Toy is a cheap, fun drone that doesn't require a controller to fly and is entertaining for all ages. The Scoot is a lot of fun indoors and outdoors, with its flight that is influenced by your motion near it. The relatively short battery life allows for 8 minutes of flight before needing to be charged, but it can be recharged in less than an hour and be ready to fly again. If you're looking for a budget gift or a fun toy for a child, the Scoot is a great option.
What Other Drones Should You Consider?
If you're looking for a cheap toy-like drone for a child or a very basic introduction into drones without breaking the bank, the HASAKEE Q9S RC is a decent option that includes a controller and bright LED lights that make it easy to keep track of while in flight. The Holystone HS210 is another affordable toy drone that delivers a traditional controller flight experience and also comes with three rechargeable batteries that each last up to 21 minutes, giving you tons of time to get the hang of the controls and try out some of the tricks it's capable of performing.
