Our Verdict

The Gotrax Eclipse Ultra with Seat seems like it would be a comfortable commuter option, with a seat and adjustable ride height to fit different riders, and while it has some thoughtful features, its real-world performance exhibited a rather slow top-end speed, a lack of power to climb steeper grades, and a smaller range. Overall, it isn't as comfortable as you'd expect, and it left us a little underwhelmed.

We appreciated the adjustable ride height, which makes it easier to customize the fit, along with dual brakes for added stopping confidence and a cruise control feature that's genuinely convenient on longer, flatter stretches.


Dislikes


The Eclipse Ultra's real-world range comes in well below what's advertised, which can be a frustrating surprise for commuters planning their trips around manufacturer-specified numbers. In our testing, the real range a rider can expect is only 15.5 miles.


The top speed is also more on par with what we have come to expect from the more budget-oriented models we've tested, at 17.9 mph.

The suspension also feels stiff and clunky rather than absorbing bumps smoothly. Instead of being able to absorb vibrations with your legs, using a seat translates bumps and vibrations to your butt and spine.

The overall weight of 52.7 lbs makes it cumbersome to carry or maneuver.

The latch system is also finicky, requiring the handlebars to be adjusted to a precise height before it will latch securely.

Should You Buy The Eclipse Ultra with Seat?


With a handful of other much better options for the same price as the Eclipse Ultra with Seat, we can't find a good reason to recommend it. It doesn't shine in any one area to fill a niche either, unless you really love the idea of a seat. Even at that, other scooters have seat add-on options if a seat is a serious requirement.

What Other Electric Scooters Should You Consider?


The NIU KQi 300X delivers stronger performance overall and is significantly cheaper. If budget is a concern and the NIU KQi 300X doesn't fit the bill, you'll want to consider the Maxshot V1, which delivers better speed, range, power, and portability, with comparable comfort for less than half the price of the Eclipse.
