A superb all-purpose gaming mouse that's wireless and comfortable to use in either hand, but not lightweight enough for some high-end gaming scenarios

Our Verdict

In a world where wired mice are considered superior for high-end gaming, the Logitech G Pro is a wireless gaming mouse with uncompromising performance that rivals even the most advanced hardware on the market. It earns our editor's choice not only for its near-perfect responsiveness but also for its elegantly simple design. The shape is intuitively symmetrical, making it comfortable for both right- and left-handed gamers. There are enough customizable buttons for most situations, but it can feel heavy compared to other competitive gaming mice, and it lacks some of the lighting and personalization features that many gamers love. Even so, the no-frills philosophy behind the G Pro is what makes it such a reliably usable mouse, whether you are kicking back for a cozy night in Stardew Valley or trying to top a Valorant tournament.
REASONS TO BUY

Satisfying tactile clicks
REASONS TO AVOID
Heavy for a competitive mouse
No Bluetooth
Editors' Note: The G Pro has been upgraded to the Logitech G Pro 2 Lightspeed. Below, we discuss some details and differences between the two.

Our Analysis and Test Results

The G Pro mouse does not attempt to obscure its specs behind bright lights, sharp angles, or experimental design principles. What you see is what you get, and what you get is a high-performance mouse with a gently curved shape that fits nicely in the hands of almost any gamer. It has customizable side buttons on both the left and right, as well as five configuration profiles you can save onboard the mouse, making it versatile enough for a wide variety of both gaming and non-gaming purposes.

The G Pro's simple design actually makes it stand out among high-end gaming mice, as does its symmetry, complete with configurable side buttons on either flank.

G Pro vs G Pro 2 Lightspeed

The new Logitech G Pro 2 Lightspeed comes in the same comfortable and ambidextrous design that we love, but has upgraded internal specs. It features a more advanced Hero 2 sensor and updated USB-C port instead of a micro-USB port. It also has an 8,000Hz report rate, compared to the 1,000Hz rate of the original. This review is our experience with the original, but we plan to get our hands on the new version for testing as soon as possible, and are now linking to the Pro 2. Photos below show the two nearly identical-looking mice, with the Pro in the first photo and the Pro 2 in the second.

Comfort

The Logitech G Pro is one of the most comfortable gaming mice we've tested. Its safe and familiar shape warrants no complaints. While some gaming mice might force your hand into an awkward position for the sake of a stylish form factor, Logitech instead chose to iterate on a tried-and-true shape to the point of near-perfection. There's no learning curve with this mouse — just unbox it and start gaming at full capacity.

I think this mouse is very well designed,” said our lead tester. He has large hands, so it's not always easy to find a mouse that works with his preferred grip. “It's very comfortable for me to grip as a claw and claw/palm hybrid,” he said about the G Pro. The mouse also has a smooth matte finish that feels nice as the hand naturally closes around it, though some gamers might prefer a more textured grip.

The G Pro is easy to use with either a fingertip or claw grip for most hand sizes, though you may need a full palm grip if you have smaller hands.

The button press is also a satisfying experience. Clicking feels instantaneous, with practically no perceivable travel distance as you press down. This means your fingers will not fatigue as quickly, even if you are furiously clicking away on a fast-paced rhythm game.

The click force is also at a nice sweet spot. Our measurements show that it takes 62 gram-force to click the left mouse button and 71 gram-force to click the right button. This is a higher force requirement than most gaming mice we tested, but it means that accidental clicks rarely happen. Paired with the minimal travel distance, it strikes a nice balance between comfort and practicality.

Weight and Balance

Great responsiveness is a given when you're evaluating gaming mice of this caliber, so weight and balance are the factors that make a difference for the discerning gamer. In the case of the G Pro, you're sure to feel in control at every moment. It's a medium-weight mouse, though, so competitive FPS players might want a lighter option to make lightning-fast pixel-perfect movements.

Having a balanced mouse is important for precision and reducing strain over long-term use. While experimenting with the G Pro, our tester noted that it never feels like one part of the mouse is trying to move faster than another. This is a major benefit over an unbalanced mouse because being forward-heavy or back-heavy can have subtle yet devastating effects on in-game aiming or real-world wrist posture.

Weighing 80 grams, the G Pro is manageable yet certainly heavier than other gaming mice. This weight makes it easy to come to a full stop, even when making large, sweeping movements. However, its necessary startup force and overall ease-of-movement might not meet the demands of competitive players who need to react faster than the speed of sound. For games and genres that don't demand hyperspeed reactions, the steady gliding of the G Pro will be a welcome feature.

While FPS gamers might prefer a lighter mouse, the stopping power of the G Pro can be an advantage when making accurate flick shots.

Scroll Wheel

The G Pro's scroll wheel ticks all the necessary boxes in terms of resistance. It's an average scroll wheel experience without being overly fatiguing. As an added bonus, the scroll wheel click is nearly silent, giving it a leg up for gamers who want to take advantage of every button at their disposal.

The G Pro lacks advanced scrolling features, such as 4D or infinite scrolling, but its traditional design is easy and seamless enough for most cases. It rolls lightly and has a “medium tactile feel” according to our tester. Scrolling up is slightly louder than scrolling down, but either way, it's discreet enough for gaming or even office work.

While it isn't particularly innovative, this scroll wheel leaves little room for complaint.

Sensor Performance

High performance and rapid responsiveness are basic prerequisites for any product calling itself a gaming mouse, but even so, the G Pro stands out from the rest in these areas. Despite being a wireless mouse, even the most discerning competitors would struggle to notice any delay or stutter whatsoever.

With a polling rate of 1,000Hz and excellent CPI precision, the G Pro's sensor is perfectly suitable for competitive play. Some mice can reach as high as 8,000Hz, but the percentage of gamers with the reaction speed necessary to capitalize on that kind of astronomical polling rate is low indeed. We used a specialized rig to test each mouse's sensor in detail, and while we found that the G Pro does occasionally dip below 1,000Hz, the decrease is so slight that it's impossible to notice.

Should You Buy the Logitech G Pro?

The Logitech G Pro is the go-to gaming mouse for anyone who appreciates function over form, and it's certainly the top choice to consider if you prefer wireless hardware. It's a no-nonsense, no-frills mouse that simply works for anyone, including left-handed users. It may not live up to your expectations if you enjoy customizable lighting and a surplus of buttons, but the G Pro is worth the buy for its versatility in all other areas. We also found that this mouse frequently goes on sale for cheaper than its MSRP, so we highly recommend picking it up if you find a deal.

What Other Gaming Mice Should You Consider?

If your primary concern is that the G Pro might be too large for your hands or too heavy for your gaming style, our immediate advice is to check out the Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2. It features a nearly identical design to the G Pro but in a lighter, more compact form. Our favorite overall gaming mouse is the Razer Basilisk V3 35K, and we think it's worth your consideration if you're interested in a wired option. If you love wireless mice but want to save some money, check out a great budget alternative like the Logitech G305.
