Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
After testing well over a dozen market-leading gaming mice, we found only a small handful that can achieve flawless sensor performance. The Logitech G305 comes extremely close, and it is impressive that it does so as a wireless product at this price point.
Comfort
The G305 has a symmetrical shape, but we couldn't help but feel that its dimensions are just a bit awkward. It tries to accommodate a variety of hand sizes but falls short of really appealing to any one of them. The hump seems to be in a good spot, but it doesn't actually support the palm very well. The buttons are wide enough to comfortably accommodate large fingers, but the overall size of the mouse doesn't suit large hands unless they use a fingertip grip. People with medium-sized hands are likely to find the most comfort here, but anyone with particularly smaller or larger hands will surely have complaints.
A positive trait of the G305 is its effortless button clicking. Both the left and right buttons require less than 40 gram force to press, meaning it requires the lightest touch out of all gaming mice we tested. This helps minimize fatigue over long gaming sessions, even when you're playing a click-heavy game, but be aware that this means that accidental clicks are also more likely.
Weight and Balance
The G305 is a relatively compact wireless mouse, but it is dense. Weighing in at 95 grams, it is almost as heavy as gaming mice that are 40% larger. The amount of force needed to move the mouse isn't too crazy, but competitive gamers might consider a lighter mouse if they need to make quick shots as fast as possible.
The more pressing issue with the G305 is its lack of balance. Its considerable weight is distributed mostly toward the center and back, which creates a slight element of unpredictability compared to a perfectly balanced mouse. You might notice a hit to your precision until you get used to this unusual weight distribution. However, being back-heavy is greatly preferable over being front-heavy, so you might find yourself able to overlook this flaw without issue.
Scroll Wheel
A mouse's scroll wheel is something that most people don't think about unless it's truly horrible or mind-blowingly good. The Logitech G305 has an unassuming scroll wheel. Whether you're using it for casual browsing, zooming in/out in a third-person or isometric game, or mapping an additional function to the scroll wheel press, you'll never find yourself thinking that it's particularly good or bad. You might not think about it at all.
The G305's scroll wheel is to rotate. While the actual level of resistance is average, in practice, it feels relatively smooth compared to other gaming mice. It's fairly light with a medium tactile feel, and it produces an average level of noise.
Sensor Performance
Despite any imperfections this mouse may have, it contains Logitech's proprietary HERO sensor, which is a great, if not totally flawless, sensor. It has a measured polling rate that doesn't quite reach 1,000Hz, but it's so close that you'll never notice the difference. The one used in this mouse is not as advanced as Logitech's newer HERO 2 sensor, so it won't reach the 8,000Hz level that the pinnacle competitive gamers might demand, but for most, it will work well.
Should You Buy the Logitech G305?
The world of gaming mice is dominated by zero-latency wired models, but the Logitech G305 is a rare example of a wireless mouse that can rival the performance of its peers. Considering its reasonable price tag, it deserves your consideration if you're looking for cord-free convenience. Just keep in mind that it provides middling results in terms of comfort and balance. If you want a wireless mouse that manages to overcome these issues, there are some out there, but they will come at a much higher premium.
What Other Gaming Mice Should You Consider?
We highly recommend the Logitech G Pro if you're willing to spend a bit more for a wireless mouse that outperforms the G305 in every way. If both of these models seem too pricey, we can recommend the Redragon M612 Predator RGB as a very competent gaming mouse on a tight budget, if you're ok with dealing with a cord. Our favorite gaming mouse overall is the Razer Basilisk V3 35K, but that, too, is a wired option that won't feel as convenient as the Logitech G305.
