Our Verdict

The Tineco Pure ONE S20 is a strong hardwood cleaner. It is a great deal for anyone who doesn't have much carpet in their home. It also offers some of the best filtration results in our lineup. You can rest assured the yucky stuff stays in the vacuum, not floating back around in the air. Otherwise, there isn't much to write home about. It has middling results on carpet cleaning, ease of use, and battery life.

Bottom Line You won't get the best results on carpet, but your hardwood will look greatIt keeps your home clean as a premium vacuum does, but it struggles on hair and shag rugsThis simple vacuum is a solid cleaner, just don't expect much on shag carpetThis vacuum delivers an impressive clean for a budget-friendly model, holding its own against competitors that cost two or even three times moreAn affordable stick vacuum that's lightweight but middling on performance

Our Analysis and Test Results

Likes

The Tineco Pure ONE S20 is one of the most effective cleaners on hardwood floors. It ate 97% of the debris we scattered, only slowing once we hit the max debris line (0.4 L). It also did well cleaning along baseboards and corners, picking up nearly all our coffee grounds.

The Pure ONE S20 handled our large hardwood mess and baseboards with ease.

The Pure ONE's filtration results are worth a special shout-out. While many vacuums do a great job keeping fine particles in the vacuum, the Tineco's results were among the best.

Want the extra testing details?
We use Dylos particle counters to capture the filtration data. We vacuum up fine flour to see how much would escape our vacuums. The Dylos counter showed a relatively small particle reading of 25 (2.5-0.5 µm), which indicates an 'Excellent' result. Most of the best vacuums have readings that land around 30-75. The smaller the better, as fewer particles have escaped the vacuum.

Dislikes

The Tineco is otherwise fairly average across the board. It isn't the most robust cleaner on carpet. It cleaned a decent chunk of our carpet, but left plenty behind deep within the weave. If you opt for the Tineco, you'll need to do deeper cleans occasionally with a more powerful upright vacuum.

We had similar results with pet hair. It cleaned our floors reasonably well, but we still had clumps left behind. The brushroll got wrapped with hair, but we did appreciate the quick-release feature for easy cleaning.

Maneuverability was one of the biggest struggles for the Pure ONE. It struggled to make the jump from hardwood to carpet. Luckily, it is pretty light and can be lifted, but that often meant we were leaving behind debris along this flooring border.

We were able to get around tight corners, but the vacuum slipped moving from hardwood to carpet.

It only comes with a crevice attachment for its handheld function. Many vacuums now include a motorized attachment that makes cleaning upholstery and stairs much easier. We would love to see a motorized attachment included in future versions of this vacuum.

Should You Buy the Tineco Pure ONE S20?

This isn't a bad pick if you have mostly hardwood. Otherwise, it doesn't stand out for anything in particular. Yes, it is inexpensive, but there are other picks around the same price that do better on carpet.

What Other Cordless Stick Vacuums Should You Consider?

For around the same price, you can get the Levoit LVAC-300 or Bissell PowerClean FurFinder. The Bissell is the cheaper of the two. It has similar results on hardwood, stands on its own, and includes a motorized brush too. It is also much better on carpet. The Levoit LVAC-300 is a tad more expensive, but performs similarly to premium picks. It does well on carpet and hardwood. Plus, it is super easy to use on stairs and upholstery.
