Our Analysis and Test Results
The Ninja Foodi Digital Oven manages to be a top-notch toaster oven, air fryer, and an effective food dehydrator, and we love that it conveniently flips on its side to take up an inconsequential amount of counter space when not in use. The accessories include a crumb tray, an air fry basket, and a wire rack, making it versatile for various culinary tasks. You can cook family-sized meals or multiple dishes at once, all without taking up too much space in your kitchen. Plus, the oven's sleek design and finish add a modern touch to any kitchen.
Performance Comparison
Cooking Performance
All around, the Ninja Foodi Digital Oven served up delicious food in our cooking tests. We were very satisfied with the cooking performance of this appliance; it excelled with frozen foods like pizzas, meatballs, and tater tots, and even baking cookies. Its powerful convection fan ensures that heat is well distributed, resulting in well-cooked meals every time.
The Ninja Foodi Digital Oven produced great results throughout our frozen food testing. Tater tots came out crispy and evenly cooked, cookies were golden brown with a light and fluffy texture, and meatballs browned without drying out. We were very pleased with the outcomes of the foods we tested in this toaster oven. The oven comes with various accessories, including an air fry basket, a wire rack, and a crumb tray, enhancing its versatility when it comes to cooking all sorts of stuff.
The Foodi knocked it out of the park with our tater tots test, producing the best batch of all the ovens we tested. We used the air fry mode, which produced evenly golden brown tots with a thin crispy exterior and soft, fluffy inside. Chef's kiss!
Toasting
The Ninja Foodi Digital Oven excelled in our toasting tests, similar to the dedicated toasters we tested. It was able to get a very even browning on bread and got the cut side of bagels crispy while leaving the backsides warm and soft. If you prefer your bagels toasted on both sides, it can do that too. The toaster did wonders for our toasted foods, and we were impressed with the overall results.
The only slight imperfection we found in the Ninja Foodi Digital Oven's toasting performance was in its toast map. When we loaded the oven wall to wall with toast, the toast placed close to the door came out slightly lighter than the toast in the center. However, this problem is much worse in most other models we've tested. It could have been better, but our testing showed us that it also could have been much worse.
Ease of Use
The Ninja Foodi Digital Oven is definitely designed with user-friendliness in mind, starting with the interface. Despite taking up very little space and thus contributing to the relatively minimalistic design of the device, it is quite clear and easy to navigate. Whether you're an amateur cook or a culinary enthusiast, this toaster oven has tons of user-friendly features. A single knob allows for quick scrolling through the multitude of cooking presets, as well as temperature and time settings. The toaster's non-stick interior makes cleaning a breeze, and the removable crumb tray catches any drips or spills, as well. This helps to maintain a tidy cooking space.
On top of the slick interface, the Ninja Foodi Digital Oven utilizes a simple crumb tray that is easy to remove and clean. The door handle is on the side of the oven, which allows for a clear and unobstructed view of its contents.
Perhaps most importantly, the Ninja Foodi Digital Oven has a foot with a hinge, so it can be easily folded up when not in use. Its folded configuration can fit underneath most cabinets and takes up barely more counter space than a traditional slot toaster. Once folded back down, it can easily accommodate a full-sized 13" pizza.
Temperature Accuracy
The Ninja Foodi Digital Oven was one of the most accurate ovens we tested. We set the oven to 350 and tracked its temperature over 30 minutes, then noted the average temperature. We ran this tests three times and took the average of the three. The Foodi averaged 7.3 degrees over 350F, which was one of the most accurate models in the test (the best were around 5 degrees off, and the worst model ran over 50 degrees hot).
It's also worth noting that this toaster oven was able to preheat much faster than other ovens, going from totally cold to 350˚ in under two minutes. This rapid preheating capability significantly reduces overall cooking time, allowing you to prepare meals more efficiently.
Should You Buy the Ninja Foodi Digital Oven?
For those looking for a top-tier toaster oven, the Ninja Foodi Digital Oven is a fantastic choice. It toasts well, bakes superbly, and can also function as an air fryer and dehydrator. We love how it flips onto its end for space-saving storage. Its large capacity allows you to prepare multiple dishes simultaneously, making it ideal for families or those who enjoy entertaining guests from time to time. However, it is not very tall, so no rotisserie chickens are going to be cooked up in this countertop oven. The Ninja Foodi is priced on the higher end of the spectrum, which may make it inaccessible to some. However, it performs better than the vast majority of ovens on the market, and it can do the job of several appliances in one. In other words, you get what you pay for. If you're willing to spend a bit extra for premium performance, we think this toaster oven delivers everything you'd expect and then some. With its multifunctionality and space-saving design, the Ninja Foodi Digital Oven is a worthwhile investment for anyone looking to upgrade their kitchen appliances.
What Other Toaster Oven Should You Consider?
For the price, it is hard to do better than the Ninja if versatility and quality cooking are your goals. If you plan to make primarily frozen foods, and your budget allows, the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is similar in its versatility, but performed somewhat better in our frozen food cooking tests and has a larger interior capacity. If you're looking to save a bit of money, the Hamilton Beach Easy Reach 4-Slice is a decent model for those on a budget, but it has a smaller interior and doesn't contain the air frying features of the Ninja Foodi.
