Our Analysis and Test Results
The Hon Ignition 2.0 offers a great blend of value and comfort. For a mid-priced chair, you get a fairly decent product that will suit the needs of all but the most serious desk jockeys.
Performance Comparison
Comfort
The Ignition offers truly middle-of-the-road comfort, but we would look at premium options if you're after a model to sit in 40+ hours a week. The high-density foam seat cushion is squishy and nice but after a prolonged sit, can be prone to flattening. The armrests are lightly padded, and the seat pan is large enough so you'll be able to tuck your legs underneath yourself. The biggest issue with this chair is the lumbar support. This piece is unpadded and made from a thin piece of plastic. While it isn't uncomfortable, you'll find better options in our fleet if you're after all-day comfort.
Adjustability
Adjustability is where the Ignition stands out the most. You can adjust the lumbar support to almost any height, and it offers three different levels of back tilt. The armrests go in and out, as well as up and down. That said, many of the more premium options let you fine-tune your set-up even more. However, for a mid-range chair, the Ignition provides enough options to suit the needs of different-sized people.
Durability
With steady use, you should get a nice long lifespan out of this chair. There are relatively few reports of any major issues; being a fairly simple chair, it doesn't have many parts that might break. The type of high-density foam used in the seat cushion is known to flatten out over time and might be something to consider if you plan to use this as your full-time work chair. Our testers also have some concerns about the longevity of the thin plastic piece that comprises the lumbar support.
Ease of Assembly
Excluding pre-assembled options, set-up is about as easy as it gets for the Ignition. All you really need to do is tighten the three screws that go from the backrest to the armrest, wheels, and cylinder.
While we found the assembly fairly straightforward and intuitive, we've also assembled many chairs. The provided instructions are outdated and call for a few steps that are no longer necessary with the most current models. This discrepancy might be confusing for some users. If you have any questions, we'd recommend reaching out to their customer support.
Value
While the Ignition is not the most comfortable chair in our fleet, it is certainly a high-performing mid-range option. If you're on a budget, we think it's a worthy contender.
Conclusion
The Hon Ignition 2.0 Task is a budget-minded chair that offers decent comfort and good adjustability. This is a great option for conference rooms or for a home office.
