Our Verdict
Our Ecovacs Deebot N20 Pro Experience
Our pet-owning testers appreciated the Ecovacs Deebot N20 Pro. It effortlessly cleaned up our floors of pet hair and was compact enough to get under hard-to-reach places where fur typically accumulates over time.
It doesn't have a self-emptying dock, which is a pro and a con. On the one hand, it reduces bulk and space. On the other hand, it needs more frequent maintenance to empty the on-board dust bin, which fills up quickly when pet hair is involved.
We appreciated the mopping feature, which is typically seen on premium options and not at this price point. Still, it did relatively well in our tests, but we needed to deep-clean from time to time to cover missed spots.
While the Deebot N20 Pro wasn't the deepest-cleaning machine, it still helped us with day-to-day pickup. For the price (often on sale), we were happy enough with the results.
Our Analysis and Test Results
Cleaning Performance
The N20 Pro handles large debris and wall edges impressively, lifting Cheerios and other sizable messes in one pass. Carpet coverage is solid, and the roller brush grips well, picking up most pet hair efficiently. Fine particles, like sand, can be left along corners and edges, but central areas remain clean.
The downside here is its performance on hard flooring. Only picking up 62% of the debris scattered on concrete during testing. The smaller the debris, the more difficulty it had — Cheerios were vacuumed up easily, rice was a little tougher, and sand was left easily visible during our testing.
Navigation
Navigation is a weak point. The robot handles large furniture and walls reasonably well, but struggles with avoiding small obstacles such as socks or toys. It doesn't effectively avoid fake pet accidents, and if it fails to detect an object, it may bump into it. Despite these limitations, it completes full cleaning runs and covers most of the floor.
It can run for up to 300 minutes, covering nearly 6,000 sq. ft. on a single charge, according to the manufacturer — perfect for larger homes or multiple cleaning sessions without interruption. In our experience, it took the robot roughly an hour to complete our obstacle avoidance test, with it cleaning 538 sq ft.
Ease of Use
Operation is simple, with tactile buttons for docking, starting, and pausing cleaning cycles. The app offers a real-time map, room selection, scheduling, and up to three saved maps. Some features, like mop-only mode or multiple location management, feel slightly hidden, but overall, the interface is intuitive and easy to navigate. This model scored near the top tier of all the vacuums we tested for general ease of use.
Pet Hair
Pet hair is where this vacuum shines. The roller brush lifts hair from carpet and hard floors efficiently, and wall edges are well-managed. While fine debris in corners can linger, overall coverage ensures pet hair is handled with minimal intervention, making it a strong choice for pet owners.
Hair buildup is mostly manageable. Wheels stay clear, but the roller brush can get heavily tangled, taking several minutes to fully clean. Some hair also collects between the bin and brush, but overall it's not a dealbreaker.
Noise
This vacuum scored a bit higher than average in our noise testing. It can get noisy, with whirring and clicking sounds from the roller brush and sweeper contacts — you might mistake these noises for jams but that's just how it operates. While not whisper-quiet, it's manageable for everyday use.
Voice commands handle basic functions like docking and starting cleaning, and worked smoothly despite the noise.
Mopping
The 220ml water tank and adjustable water levels make mopping convenient and mostly effective. Light and medium messes are removed well, and floors stay mostly dry. Heavier stains, especially near edges, may not be fully cleared, but the mopping feature complements vacuuming for general home maintenance in between deeper cleans.
