We raced, tested, and measured 15 kettles from leading brands like Bonavita, Fellow, Breville, and Cuisinart to determine the very best electric kettle
The best kettles deliver fast boil times, accurate temperatures, and feel comfortable and precise when pouring. Making that first cup is a little more enjoyable.
In the last 7 years, we have bought over 40 electric kettles and subjected them to extensive boil time tests and detailed temperature accuracy analysis. We boil thousands of gallons of water in our homes and the lab, and make countless cups of tea and coffee.
The OXO Brew Gooseneck is the best overall kettle. It had great temperature accuracy and our favorite pour.
Want something that won't drain your bank account, but performs almost as well? The Offary Gooseneck is an incredible value.
You'll want to look at a coffee maker with a brew timer for a set-it-and-forget-it approach to your morning coffee.
Editor's Note: On April 23, 2025, we completely overhauled this review with a new lineup, new testing, and all new recommendations.
This fast boiling gooseneck kettle delivers good results across the board and excels in comfort and pouring performance. Perfect for pour over coffee
This elegant kettle more than satisfies the requirements of high-end coffee and tea drinkers so long as you have enough patience for the slow pour speed
A good kettle for coffee drinkers with a nice handle, but it will burn your green tea leaves
An elegant kettle with good to great performance across the board with very few compromises
Performs similarly to and in some cases better than kettles more than twice its price
A basic but effective kettle that is competitively priced and nice-looking to boot
A quick-pouring kettle with a large capacity, a variety of presets, and a useful memory feature
This kettle vies for the top spot with its large capacity, multiple temperature set points, and good looks
This budget-friendly model gets the job done and has a quick pour speed, but isn't recommended for those looking to customize their heat settings
A large simple kettle that still produces a good stream and heats up fast
This kettle's single temperature setting is outweighed by a stellar light show and smooth pouring
A decent kettle that is handicapped by poor design decisions
A good enough kettle for tea and coffee, but it has some problems with boiling speed and pouring quality
This kettle is large and bulky, making it imprecise and hard to pour with
Fun color options, sturdy insulation, and a low price make this capable kettle an excellent budget option for anyone looking for simplicity and safety
Pour-over lovers and tea brewers alike will appreciate the OXO Brew Gooseneck for its variable temperature control and delightful feel. This sleek, well-designed gooseneck offers a controlled and balanced pour thanks to its ergonomic soft rubber handle that lets you easily manipulate your pour speed. When passed around the office, remarks like “Oh, this feels good” and “I like the grip” were often heard about this kettle's exceptional handle. Beyond the pour, the OXO base has a screen displaying the current temperature and can hold your water at the set temperature, so even if you forget about the kettle, it'll be ready when you are. For tea drinkers, the temperature controls allow for heat adjustments in 1º increments to brew different tea varietals adequately. Still, we found that it tended to run above the set temp by a couple of degrees if set below 195ºF.

We found the overall performance of the OXO impressive, but there were a few drawbacks, such as the lack of temperature accuracy at lower temperatures, its relatively high price point, and the loose-feeling dial. Limitations aside, the merits of the OXO far outweigh its imperfections. If you like the gooseneck style but want to save a few bucks to outfit your coffee and tea service kit, we highly recommend checking out the high-performing Offacy Gooseneck. Aside from its boiling speed, it scored just a hair less in most categories and even outpaced it regarding temperature accuracy for green tea. It also retails for about half the price.
The Oxo had great pouring accuracy and the best feel.
The Offacy Gooseneck is a good option for anyone looking for a great, affordable electric gooseneck kettle. This model offers shockingly accurate variable temperature controls, automatic shut-off, and a nicely balanced handle at a price that will not break the bank. In addition, the easy-to-read LED display is reminiscent of an 80s digital clock but with much more functionality. Our reviewer, Liber, was particularly enamored with the display and user interface: “It looks sleek and elegant, but not overly complicated. I think anyone could pick it up and use it without reading the instructions”.

The Offacy might be from an unknown brand, but it was clearly designed with care. It looks and performs well compared to kettles that cost more than twice as much, while not feeling overly cheap. It doesn't boil water as fast as our more expensive models, but I wouldn't expect it to because it only utilizes 1200 W compared to the maximum of 1500 W. One of our editors personally owns this kettle and says, “The chime is very loud; I wish I could turn it down.” The only other detracting point for this kettle is that the quality of the stream coming out of the kettle is a little lower compared to its more expensive counterparts. The water breaks into droplets more quickly than others, but this shouldn't matter too much from a normal pouring distance unless you are a pour-over coffee aficionado. Note that this is nearly identical to the Intasting Gooseneck. We recommend the Offacy because it costs less. Buy whichever one is the best price at the time you purchase.
Sometimes, you need a kettle to just boil water, no messing around or fussing about. When that time comes, the Amazon Basics Electric Kettle lives up to its name in delivering a basic kettle that does exactly what it's supposed to: boil water fast. It is the fastest among our tests. Its large capacity is almost twice what we see in gooseneck-style kettles, which allows it to be used for things outside of brewing tea and coffee, like quickly boiling water for pasta or other cooking applications. It is also the least unwieldy of the large pitcher-style kettles. “Despite its size, this one still feels good to pour,” said one of our testers.

With no temperature controls, your only option is to boil water fully. This isn't much of a problem if you don't need to get to the exact ideal temperature for your coffee or tea, but if it is, you already know this isn't the kettle for you. The kettle also has a plastic window to indicate water level and a plastic component to the lid, so if you are trying to avoid hot water that has interacted with plastic, look at our other top selections, which are mostly plastic-free.
The Fellow Stagg EKG is a gooseneck spout electric kettle with a timeless design that will look good on any countertop. The control panel on the baseplate offers useful functions to adjust brew temperatures, a 'pre-boil' option to boil water before dropping it to a desired temperature, schedule automatic heating, adjust the chime volume, and set a brewing stopwatch. It is the ultimate kettle for the pour-over coffee connoisseur, with excellent flow quality, great precision, good ergonomics, and precise temperature accuracy in the coffee brewing range.

Although the Fellow is undeniably high-end, there are some annoyances that come with that. Its slow flow rate is engineered for pour-over coffee, but this might annoy you if you intend to use the kettle for other means. One of our testers who personally owns the Fellow has this advice: “If I want to make tea, I take off the lid and pour out of the top.”… Yeah, it's that slow. Although the interface allows many functions, this adds complexity, and you might never use those features. Unless you live at sea level, you'll want to adjust the 'Altitude' setting; otherwise, the kettle will try to boil until it reaches 212ºF, an impossible task at higher elevations. Less sophisticated kettles handle this automatically without the need to know your elevation.
The Breville IQ attempts to do it all by being a good-looking pitcher-style kettle with high capacity, adjusting temperature controls, and a temperature hold feature. It mostly achieves this with a fast boiling speed, decent temperature accuracy, and an easy-to-use interface. The kettle utilizes its 1500 W heating element to have one of the fastest boiling speeds in our lineup.

Trying to do it all does come with some downsides, however. We found that while it was on the mark for temperature accuracy in the range for green tea, it was a little off for coffee. Compounding with the frankly bad water pouring precision makes the Breville not the best purchase for a pour-over coffee lover but a great purchase for a green tea drinker, as the pouring accuracy matters much less for tea. “I like the idea of the Breville, but I think it compromises on too much, and I don't like the mushy buttons,” said our tester. We also had reliability issues with our model, where the lid would open only about half the time.

Why You Should Trust Us
Every member of our test team has spent years developing their in-depth testing, analytical, problem-solving, and objective assessment skills, whether through individual studies or diverse life experiences. Our main reviewer for electric kettles, Liber, got his BS in plant biology from the University of California, Davis, before spending years in the biotech industry building biochemical analytical tests. At GearLab, he is utilizing his experience with the scientific discovery process and methodical test designing skills to analyze whatever product category comes to him. He is also a loose-leaf tea enthusiast and a big proponent of using an electric kettle to boil water for all your hot water-related cooking needs to expedite the process.

How We Tested
In our pursuit of detailed, data-driven consumer appliance evaluations, we perform extensive and continual testing on the most compelling products on the market. In this case, we scoured the web for the most popular electric kettle units, read countless user reviews, and consulted experts in the tea and coffee business. Then, after much deliberation, we purchased the best kettles we could find for comparative testing in our lab. Our exhaustive testing puts every electric kettle through a multi-point performance analysis to rate the most important functions we think users will want to know more about. Each kettle is subjected to 16 individual tests to analyze and compare its performance. During these tests, we examined their pour-over ability, clocked their pouring performance and boiling speed, noted how easy each one was to use, and evaluated how all their features and functions enhanced the user experience. Our review also utilizes exhaustive research and observations from various testers to develop a well-rounded perspective of use and functionality.

Analysis and Test Results
Our testers agree that one of life's most wonderful pleasures is enjoying freshly brewed coffee or tea each morning…and throughout the day. An electric kettle can be an excellent investment to enhance your morning ritual. We've tested the top products on the market to help you find the right model.
What's the Best Value?
Value For Accuracy and Temp Control You can't go wrong with the Offacy. It is a cheaper version of the Intasting Gooseneck, which itself is heavily inspired by the Fellow Stagg, the highest-priced kettle we reviewed. The Offacy offers all of the features of the higher-priced kettle except for the scheduling feature, at a third of the price.
Value For Speed of Boiling and Pouring If you want to just boil and pour fast, a gooseneck kettle will hinder you more than help. The best deal in this case is the Amazon Basics with its fast boiling time and high capacity. Being Amazon's own brand, it also often goes on sale, further lowering its already low price.

Boiling Speed
You know the phrase a watched pot never boils. That might have been true in the past, but no longer! Electric kettles seemingly attack the water and force it to change states right before your eyes. To quantify this, we ran a simple boil time analysis. We took 500 mL of 57°F water, poured it into each unit, turned it on, and recorded the time to reach a rolling boil and automatically shut off. This methodology takes into account how most people will use their kettle, which is waiting for the kettle to shut off before pouring from the kettle.
Most of the electric kettles we tested boiled water within 4 minutes. The Amazon Basics achieved the same outcome in a fraction of the time, which makes a big difference if you're running late after hitting the snooze button too many times. The Secura and the Bonavita 1.0L Gooseneck take last place by far here because they only have a 1000 W heating element. The Bonavita, in particular, performed poorly because its automatic shut-off mechanism let the kettle continue to boil for a while before shutting off.

A Note About Boiling Speed
Water's boiling point varies based on atmospheric pressure and — all things being equal — atmospheric pressure decreases with elevation. Our test lab sits about 6,400 feet above sea level, an elevation yielding a relatively low average boiling point of about 201°F. At sea level, this value rises to ~212°F. Accordingly, don't be surprised if you can't match our reported boil times. However, the observed differences between the kettles should remain the same.

Temperature Accuracy for Coffee
The ideal range for brewing coffee tea is between 195°F and 205°F. We picked 200°F as the single temperature to test as it is the median value, and some kettles only had preset values. We placed temperature probes in each kettle that continuously monitored the interior water temperature. Then, the kettles were filled with 500 mL of cold water and set to 200°F. We repeated this three times per kettle to get an average value and to be able to look at the variability of the temperature accuracy.

The Fellow Stagg EKG wins the coffee accuracy challenge, but others are quite close. The spread here is much smaller than the spread in temperature accuracy for green tea, and that's a good thing! Something to note here is that the Cosori Gooseneck doesn't have a 200 °F setting, so we had to test its temperature accuracy at 195 °F, while all of the other kettles were tested at 200 °F

Temperature Accuracy for Green Tea
The ideal range for steeping green tea is between 170°F and 180°F as green tea leaves are more delicate than their black tea counterparts. We picked 175°F as the single temperature to test as it is the median value, and some kettles only had preset values. Temperature probes were placed inside each kettle suspended above the bottom plate. Then, the kettles were filled with 500 mL of cold water and set to 175°F. We repeated this three times for each kettle to get an accurate average value.

Pour Feel
A mostly subjective metric, pour feel is simply how good and effortless it feels to pour water from the kettle. We did find that the intuitive pour feel ranking matched very closely to the natural angle required to pour water from the kettle, so we'll share that data with you below. This isn't always fully correlated; other things like handle quality, weight, and balance also factor into our scoring.

The Cosori Gooseneck and the Bodum Bistro are both tied here for their excellent pour feel. Many of our award winners also placed quite highly, like the OXO Brew Gooseneck, the Offacy Gooseneck, and the Fellow Stagg EKG. Typically, the gooseneck kettles fared better here because of their smaller size and bulk. However, out of the pitcher-style kettles, the Secura Stainless Steel and the Amazon Basics Electric Kettle did better than most because of their more ergonomic handles and slimmer design.
On the right the Bodum bistro barely requires any wrist movement to pour, while the Chefman takes a considerable amount of torque to hold it up and pour
Ease of Use

Credit: Liber McKee
This category encompasses how intuitive the kettle was to turn on and adjust settings, how the buttons felt to press, how the kettle told you it was actually on, and other features like how it responds to being removed from its base and replaced. Many kettles did quite well here, which is a good thing! Our Best Buy award winner, the Offacy Gooseneck, ranks highly here because of its stellar display, clearly indicating the set temperature, if the kettle is heating, and if temperature holding is active.
Something we noticed that concerned us was that if a lot of kettles are still heating and haven't automatically turned off yet, then removed from the base and placed back on, they will continue heating. This could be a beneficial feature if you realize there isn't enough water in the kettle, so you remove it, add more water, and then put it back on. However, a more likely scenario would be that the water is boiling, but the automatic shut-off hasn't been triggered yet; you remove the kettle, pour your water, and then put the kettle back on the base. In this case, the kettle will resume boiling water; if you use all the water, it will be heating nothing. All of the kettles have 'dry boil protection,' which shuts them off when they don't detect water. Still, depending on how this is implemented, they can heat up quite a lot before shutting off, producing bad burning smells and potentially reducing the lifespan of your kettle.
The OXO Brew gooseneck has all of the ideal temperatures for coffee and teas written on the base. Unfortunately, the kettle covers this up when its placed on the base

Precision Pouring
How pleasing is the stream of water flowing out of the kettle? Do droplets splash around everywhere, getting your counter wet? Does the stream fully agitate the coffee grains, allowing for maximum extraction in your pour-over? These are the questions we addressed when looking at the precision of each kettle. The quality of the stream of water flowing out of a kettle can be determined by measuring the distance the water falls as a single stream before breaking up into droplets.

Credit: Liber McKee
The Cosori gooseneck won in this test by a wide margin, with some of our other favorite kettles still performing adequately, but coming up a little short. After all, how often do you pour hot water from more than 8 inches above your coffee? Where this test is really damning, though, is for the low scorers. Not being able to maintain a consistent stream means it's much harder to recommend that they pour over coffee users.
Conclusion
The electric kettle market offers kettles for every purpose, from coffee and tea enthusiasts to everyday users. Key models include the OXO Brew gooseneck (Best Overall for its design, pour, and controls, though less accurate at low temps), the budget-friendly Offacy Gooseneck (great value and temperature control despite a slower boil), the elegant Fellow Stagg EKG (top aesthetics but slow pour and complex interface), the rapid-boiling Amazon Basics (fast and simple but lacks temperature control), and the versatile Breville IQ pitcher (good temp accuracy, especially for green tea, but potential pour/build issues). Choosing the right kettle depends on prioritizing individual needs like speed, accuracy, design, or specific functionality for different hot beverages.
