Our Verdict
Our Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni Experience
From the first time we used the Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni, we could tell it was truly a luxury vacuum. Its next-level navigation and obstacle avoidance are in a world of its own, and its sleek design (and dock to match) is legitimately cool. It's a looker.
Its mopping performance is impressive, with automatic water heating and refill, and 50-level water adjustment able to handle both dry and wet stains. Our home felt spotless after this vacuum ran, and a lot of that was thanks to the mopping function.
After vacuuming, it left behind neat, methodical cleaning patterns, which we loved to see.
The only significant drawback for this model is its struggles with pet hair — it scored closer to budget models than its premium colleagues when it came to both collecting fur and untangling effort. No pets? No problem.
The dock has a bit of a larger footprint than other vacuums and is a tad loud, but the large dust bag capacity means fewer dock cleanouts. It delivers on many fronts, but minor drawbacks mean it may not fully justify its premium positioning.
You might also want to take a look at the iRobot Roomba Combo 10 Max. The mopping performance was a bit of a letdown, but it performed similarly to the Deebot X9 Pro Omni in most other tests and can occasionally be found at nearly half the price.
Our Analysis and Test Results
Cleaning Performance
The X9 Pro Omni gets the job done on most surfaces, handling carpets, rugs, and hard floors with solid coverage. Our testers noted methodical, precise rows and thorough perimeter cleaning. Large debris like Cheerios and rice were usually picked up, but smaller messes like sand were occasionally left behind or pushed into corners. All things considered, we were pleased with how our floors looked after vacuuming was finished.
Despite solid cleaning performance across surface types, this model was a bit of a let-down when it came to digging debris out of corners. “The biggest takeaway is that she isn't detail-oriented when it comes to edge cleaning,” wrote our tester, surprised that cheaper models outperformed this expensive vacuum in this test.
The roller brush wasn't always aggressive enough for deeply embedded dirt. That could have been improved with multiple passes, but robot vacuums typically aren't, which is why you'll still need to use a traditional vacuum from time to time.
Navigation
Obstacle avoidance is where the X9 Pro Omni shines. Its RGBD+ camera, edge sensors, and TruEdge 3D sensors allow it to slow down and carefully navigate around cords, furniture, and even delicate items. The only trip in our obstacle avoidance test was our flattest simulated pet mess, which became caught up in the roller brush and caused the vacuum to alert us for help.
It hugged perimeters well and moved efficiently in interior rows, rarely getting stuck. It even “learned” to avoid flat obstacles after the first pass, demonstrating adaptive intelligence.
During testing, it handled thresholds and tight spaces with ease, consistently restoring itself to the dock for auto‐emptying. “Despite being a taller, thick robot, it was able to fit into pretty tricky spots like wall corners and between furniture for max cleaning access,” wrote our tester."
Ease Of Use
We loved how easy this robot was to operate and how many features the app had. You can schedule zone cleaning, set virtual boundaries, adjust suction and water levels, and even save multiple maps for different floors. If you spot an issue, you can even look back through video and cleaning logs to see what happened.
Voice control via the integrated “Yiko” assistant adds a hands-free layer of convenience (you can look through command logs as well), while real-time maps show cleaning progress and obstacles clearly.
That being said, some features—like switching to mop-only mode—aren't immediately obvious, and the physical buttons on the robot are unlabeled, which can slow initial setup. Overall, it's user-friendly but comes with a slight learning curve for full feature access. You'll get the hang of it if you put a little effort into learning the ropes.
Pet Hair
The Deebot X9 Pro Omni isn't the pet hair powerhouse we expected it to be during testing. While it handled larger debris and general messes well, it struggled to fully capture fur, especially along edges and in corners — it went over those spaces, but just had trouble sucking up hair.
The dual roller brush design did help collect hair, but clumps often became tangled around the wheels and brush ends, requiring manual untangling. Over multiple passes, it managed to lift some embedded hair, but lighter strands and stubborn tufts remained behind.
We expected pet hair performance to be a lot better, considering this bot's capabilities in other areas, but it falls well below what we were looking for. If your household has shedding pets, this is a notable weakness—one that slightly undermines this robot's otherwise impressive cleaning.
Noise
We were impressed with this vacuum in most areas, but its noise level is a bit of a weak spot. The auto‑empty dock emits a loud, sustained buzz during the self‑emptying and mop‑tank refill cycles — just enough to catch your attention and potentially disturb a nap or quiet moment. “Overall noise level could cause a brief disturbance to your day, would definitely wake up a baby nearby,” wrote our tester, but it didn't sink to the level of our below-average scores in this category.
During cleaning, the robot's suction ramp‑up and turns produce a noticeable whine and mechanical hum. It's not much more intrusive than many premium models, but at this price point, we'd expect a calmer experience. If you prefer a near‑silent machine for living rooms or bedrooms, this model may fall short.
Mopping
The Deebot X9 Pro Omni has some pretty impressive mopping features: 50 levels of water adjustment, a 110ml-capacity clean water tank that the robot can refill automatically, and a dock that provides water heating. Those aren't just talking points either — it delivers solid mopping performance, effectively removing all light and medium stains and even most of the darkest ones.
The robot moves a bit slower in mop mode, but we were willing to sacrifice time for quality. The app allows you to put the robot in mop-only mode, a general mop and vacuum mode, or a more direct mop after vacuuming setting. Setting this up can be a bit tricky, but we were happy with the options. Overall, its mopping performance is ahead of the pack when it comes to robot vacuums.
