Our Verdict

After extensive hands-on evaluations and repeated tests, I found that the Eufy Floodlight Camera E340 shines as a superior choice among the many floodlight security camera options on the market today. This camera successfully combines incredibly sharp 3K video resolution, dual cameras, powerful illumination, robust and reliable monitoring capabilities, and can even be set up to locally monitor and store recordings without a subscription. It is a comprehensive security solution for poorly lit spaces that includes a user-friendly and intuitive, mostly advertisement-free app that I really liked.

Video Quality

The Eufy Floodlight Cam E340's captures crisp 3K resolution with fine details that most competing models miss.

The Eufy Floodlight Cam E340 camera delivered pristine clarity and sharpness with good contrast and even exposure overall, suffering less from glare than other high-resolution security cameras I tested.

The 3k lens is a wide-angle lens capable of capturing a wider picture, while the addition of a 2k lens offers a 3x optical zoom and up to 8x digital zoom, allowing users to get a closer look at certain objects in the frame. This enables users to zoom in without losing much clarity.

The magnification is achieved through Eufy's “hybrid zoom” technology, which combines optical and digital magnification to maintain great clarity and detail. The “hybrid zoom” technology also enables the camera to easily identify people and objects both close up and far in the background.

This camera also shines when it comes to color accuracy. I found that it does an exceptional job of reproducing different hues and tones.

Colors are reproduced with remarkable fidelity, ensuring that what you see in the footage closely resembles reality, so much so that you can see the subtle differences in the shades of yellows and greens on ornamental grasses at the periphery of our testing area. I was personally impressed by this since, in my experience, I've found that it's typically difficult for camera sensors to capture colors this well.

Some of the most impressive test results came from our low-light after-hours evaluations, where the Eufy Floodlight Cam E340 demonstrated exceptional nighttime picture quality. Unlike many security cameras I've tested that struggle in low-light conditions, our nighttime tests showed the E340 offers next-level detail and clarity after dark. The infrared night vision is some of the best I've seen.

This unit's powerful floodlights also ensure that you capture the best nighttime video footage while also sending a clear signal to people that they are being watched!

Monitoring Performance

The Eufy Floodlight Cam E340 proved its high-level monitoring performance abilities throughout our hands-on tests and evaluations of security cameras.

When testing the motion detection system, I found it highly customizable and reliable, allowing us to add up to two motion detection zones using a precise 6-point shape with draggable points. This granular control helps to eliminate false alerts from irrelevant movement outside of monitored areas (such as a tree branch swaying in the wind). It also has great tracking abilities, as seen below.

The Eufy Floodlight Cam E340 offers alerts for Motion, Person, Vehicle, and Animal detection, with the added benefit of subject tracking that follows movement across the camera's field of view (FOV), which performed reliably in our controlled scenarios of a person approaching a door and walking through different spaces. The panning and tilting capabilities of this camera also allow it to track subjects in larger spaces, which it does rather smoothly.

Person detection functioned consistently at distances all the way up to the 20 foot maximum length I tested. However, while reliable facial recognition technology is present on other Eufy models, it is not available on the E340.

The E340 also features two-way audio, enabling users to speak with visitors clearly through the app, and also includes out-of-view detection through the use of motion sensors, ensuring nothing is missed.

All told, the Eufy Floodlight Cam E340 exhibits an impressive array of detection capabilities that easily offset the camera's absence of facial recognition, package detection, and sound detection.

It's worth noting that the Eufy HomeBase unlocks the potential for many more features in your security setup, offering local recording and comprehensive monitoring capabilities without a subscription. However, this device doesn't come cheap.

It's also worth mentioning that its myriad of free features are uncommon in today's market, where competitors typically reserve advanced features for paying subscribers. While I don't love that HomeBase increases the initial investment, it does eliminate recurring fees.

Ease of Use

I had a great user experience while testing the Eufy Floodlight Cam E340. The app interface is well-designed, making it intuitive for anyone to navigate. It was very straightforward to find settings and manage preferences, detections, and notifications.

Navigation through different features feels natural, and most users will intuitively be able to access all the features and functions they need without consulting a manual. Eufy's camera app provides robust settings on live feeds, allowing homeowners to adjust parameters and activate features in real time. The interface also makes it easy to toggle when lights turn on or off, or to initiate two-way communication.

I found the event history screen simpler than that of some competitors, and it offers efficient access to recorded events without unnecessary complications. However, it lacks some of the more robust filtering that makes sorting through very large event histories easier.

The E340 requires a hardwired power source and has no battery option. Setup requires more planning and a professional electrician for those who aren't knowledgeable or comfortable when it comes to electrical wiring. However, the hardwired approach ensures reliable 24/7 performance, no need to recharge batteries, and a stable connection that only a complete power failure can disrupt. Overall, you'll find that the Eufy Floodlight Cam E340 is easy to operate, intuitive, pleasantly advertisement-free, and once installed, headache-free.

I love that the Eufy app tells me how many visitors came to my doorstep and how many packages have been delivered. I also found this nifty feature to be pretty accurate.

You can expect peace of mind that comes with exceptional 3k video quality both day and night, intelligent detection capabilities that minimize false alarms, and an easy-to-operate app. The balance of powerful security monitoring, user-friendly operation, and high-resolution video makes the E340 an easy choice in our comprehensive comparison against many other home security camera options, and our top choice in floodlight cameras. What Other Security Cameras Should You Consider?

The Eufy Floodlight Camera E340 is a clear choice in floodlight cameras, however, a few things may make you consider other options. If you are seeking absolute cutting-edge facial recognition technology or battery-powered flexibility, you'll need to look elsewhere. While the vast majority of homeowners will find the Eufy Floodlight E340 offers precisely the right combination of features, performance, and long-lasting value to effectively secure their property for years to come, an option like the Ring Spotlight Cam Plus Battery offers one of the few battery-powered options in floodlight cameras, and the Wyze Cam Floodlight v2 is a more affordable option that also includes facial recognition within its large wheelhouse of monitoring performance capabilities.
