I was impressed by the overall great 2K video quality and monitoring performance the Eufy Video Doorbell E340 exhibited in our testing, outcompeting better-known brands in the space.

Video Quality

The Eufy Video Doorbell E340 boasts impressive 2K video resolution for the upper camera, which delivers crisp, detailed footage of your entryway. The bottom, lower-resolution camera monitors the space around your entryway for packages.

I like that users can choose between infrared (black and white) or color night vision using an ambient light. During testing, I found that the Eufy Doorbell has the strongest overall video quality amongst the doorbell cameras I tested, though it's worth noting that other non-doorbell outdoor security cameras have truly exceptional video quality.

The clarity exceeded my expectations for a 2k camera, providing sharper details that make identifying visitors or potential security concerns much easier. Notably, facial details were easier to see with the Eufy than with other cameras.

While colors are mostly accurate across the spectrum, I did notice some darkening of greens and yellows. This minor color shifting, as well as a flatter or undersaturated picture overall, isn't significant enough to impact functionality; it just isn't as pristine as the video captured by cameras like Eufy's 3K floodlight camera.

Where the Eufy Video Doorbell E340 truly impressed was in its night vision capabilities. It produces remarkably clear nighttime footage with impressive color night vision for a doorbell-style camera. In low light conditions, it maintains much of the detail present in daytime recordings.

At night, this unit has impressive color night vision as well as infrared settings. I noticed a surprising level of clarity with infrared illumination that surpassed the color night vision recordings. Characters were more easily readable in our Snellen chart tests in the IR mode versus color night vision mode.

Day Quality Night Quality (using infrared tech)

I found that the top camera has a long depth of field, capturing faraway details without graininess, in addition to being able to capture closer video at the entryway. Eufy claims 16 feet of viewing distance, but I found videos were usable at greater distances.

Storage options provide flexibility without subscription requirements. The E340 includes local recording space on an SD card up to 8GB, allowing users to maintain footage history without cloud dependence. For those who require more extensive storage capacity, the camera can connect to Eufy's HomeBase for up to a massive 16GB of recording capacity. Of course, a subscription can add cloud storage for an additional monthly or annual cost, but the one-time cost of a BaseStation adds storage as well as improved monitoring performance locally.

Monitoring Performance

Video quality only matters if you can record important events and be alerted to events in real time or find the recordings later if you need them. I tested specific triggers and the monitoring performance of every camera in our product lineup, and Eufy Video Doorbell E340 proved both capable and reliable.

Eufy also has a compelling product add-on — the Eufy HomeBase. Although it adds a substantial initial cost to setting up your home security system, the HomeBase adds complete monitoring performance without requiring a subscription and the ability to store massive amounts of video to a drive(up to 16 TB) — a rarity in today's market, where most competitors lock the most advanced features and usable video storage behind monthly services.

For those who are fine with using subscription services, I found the cloud storage to be convenient and the detection abilities and features to be impressive. Person detection worked reliably up to 20 feet, our maximum tested distance, while the facial recognition functioned accurately at an impressive distance of 10 feet — better than most other cameras I tested with this feature.

The camera successfully identifies and differentiates between motion, people, vehicles, packages, and even package theft, but it does not have object-tracking functionality, which is uncommon for doorbell-style cameras anyway. It also does not have specific detections for animals or sounds.

I was also impressed by the customization options for detections. The Eufy app allows users to define up to two motion detection zones using a precise 6-point shape for the upper camera and an additional zone for the lower camera. This fine level of control allows users to eliminate false notifications from irrelevant movements (such as your neighbor walking up their driveway) and only focus on motion that matters.

And, as you would expect from a doorbell security camera, the Eufy Video Doorbell E340 has two-way audio to provide clear communication with visitors, solicitors, and delivery personnel.

Ease of Use

The Eufy app interface strikes an excellent balance between functionality and simplicity. I enjoyed the intuitive navigation with quick access buttons for common functions.

It's worth noting that video previews from the main screen aren't live, and you'll need to navigate to a camera's feed for real-time viewing, which is the only minor complaint I have about the main screen. Once viewing a live feed, the robust settings allow substantial control over camera monitoring and notification preferences.

The event history implementation is straightforward, with basic filtering options that make finding specific incidents relatively simple. While it may not be quite as advanced as some competitors' event history offerings, I found the filtering adequate for typical home use.
