Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
The dual-camera Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell punches above its weight class. Wyze hasn't cut any apparent corners to make this very-capable doorbell-style security more affordable than others, and you'll find it performs like more premium and expensive cameras in our lineup.
Video Quality
Our video quality assessment focused on every security camera's ability to capture usable, high-quality video under different lighting conditions to identify top performers and create our team's data-backed recommendations. The Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell's 2K upper camera and 1080p lower camera performed decently in these tests, and at such a modest price for a doorbell-style security camera, it offers a pretty great ratio of price to video quality performance compared to other doorbell cameras.
The Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell's most distinctive feature is its dual cameras, with a 2K resolution top camera that monitors visitors and the general approach to a door, while a 1080p bottom camera specifically keeps an eye on packages left at your doorstep. When examining daytime footage captured by the Duo, our tests highlighted that the quality is good overall, but a lack of color accuracy causes colors to look a little flat.

In our tests under natural daylight, infrared, and color night vision, I noticed the camera struggled to capture the finer details, which is apparent in our Snellen chart test, where only the top rows are readable. Graininess detracts from the overall video quality, which is still decent overall but becomes more apparent the more you interrogate the video for finer details.
The wide field of view, while offering excellent coverage of your entryway, may be partially to blame for the lack of granular detail in our Snellen chart test, as it causes a slight fish-eye effect. This might make identification of people standing far from the door more challenging than with narrower, more focused camera lenses, but should be more than sufficient to identify a person knocking on your door or stealing a package.
I also carefully evaluated night vision performance, again capturing footage that is a little pixelated and grainy when compared to other top models we've tested with equivalent 2K resolution. However, our night testing confirmed that the color night vision significantly enhances the overall nighttime video experience, providing more useful visual information than standard infrared alone, IE, a stranger wearing a blue hat versus a shade of gray walking by the entryway. I also liked the greater depth of field on the Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell as I was able to see more details on the neighboring house in addition to closer objects, whereas other doorbell cameras are limited to viewing objects nearer the camera.
While transitioning between lighting conditions, I observed that the Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell could offer less glaring transitions to night vision, as the sudden switch sometimes caused momentary disorientation in the form of a flash.
Like many other Wyze cameras, you can enable 24/7 local recording if you insert an SD card, with a limit of up to 256GB, and it is a good option for a subscription-free way to maintain continuous video recording or long event history.
Monitoring Performance
Our comprehensive feature testing revealed that core Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell's capabilities are usable without a premium subscription, which is a significant advantage over many competing systems. Basic motion alerts, live viewing, and event recordings are all available to users without additional monthly fees, and recordings can be stored locally on an SD card for a greater event history.
Our subscription comparison testing conducted trials using the base subscription of each camera model, and while it is a capable security camera without a subscription, the Wyze Cam Plus subscription enhances monitoring performance with enhanced AI detection at a modest price.
Our recognition distance testing established that the Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell performs reliable person recognition at up to 15 feet and facial recognition at approximately two feet. In practical terms, this means the camera can alert you to someone approaching your door well before they arrive while providing enough detail for identification if they lean in to speak via the two-way audio feature.
When evaluating customization options, I found that motion detection zones are easily set using an intuitive grid system that allows precise control over monitored areas. It is one of the best monitoring features of the Wyze app used on all of their cameras. It reliably and accurately triggers only when motion occurs within designated zones, without false alarms from things like passing cars on a residential street.
The Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell includes two-way audio, motion, person, vehicle, animal, and sound detections, as well as subject tracking. However, it does lack package theft and out of view detection capabilities that some other competitors offer. All told, I found the monitoring capabilities to be more than adequate.
Ease of Use
The Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell proved simple to operate, in addition to being easy to install, as it can be either hardwired or operate off a battery.
The Wyze App home screen has a logically organized list of devices and is intuitive to navigate, even for the less tech-savvy consumer. Getting to camera settings proved straightforward, with quick access to live views and recent events available at the highest level of the app, so you won't have to dig around and search to find anything important.
Comprehensive settings are available on each camera's live screen page of the app, again providing easy access to adjustments without complicated menus and obscure navigation. I also found the settings layout to be very intuitive and accessible.
The Wyze app makes it easy to group devices, which can be useful for those with multiple Wyze products, but it is primarily useful for organizing multiple cameras by location or function. The automation capabilities are also impressive and can easily be set up to make camera detections even more useful without requiring external services like Alexa or IFTTT. That said, the Wyze app is compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT if you already use or prefer to use those services. The extensive events page of the app has video trigger filters that make it simple to find specific incidents among numerous recordings, and it's convenient for those who have a busy space that triggers lots of video recordings.
Overall, our handling and use of the Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell highlighted that the Wyze app offers a wide and comprehensive array of features that make it easy to use.
Should You Buy the Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell?
I think the Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell is an excellent fit for budget-conscious homeowners seeking comprehensive front door monitoring without breaking the bank. Its affordability stands out among competitors in the video doorbell market, offering features typically found in much more expensive models and a dual-camera setup that includes 2K resolution and captures functional video recordings while monitoring both visitors and package deliveries. I highly recommend it to those seeking a functional and affordable doorbell-style security camera who don't need the absolute highest video quality.
What Other Security Cameras Should You Consider?
For homeowners seeking to maximize front door security without a large expense, the Wyze Duo Cam Doorbell delivers impressive functionality. However, for the greatest level of front door performance, you'll want to take a look at our top doorbell camera recommendation, the Eufy Video Doorbell E340. While it is more expensive, it delivers greater video quality from a 2K camera sensor, similar monitoring performance, and with an addon hub, you can get full-featured monitoring performance and local recordings without a cloud service. For those with data security concerns or those seeking the best that 2K video can offer, the Eufy is worth considering.
