Our Verdict
Our Analysis and Test Results
I found the Eufy Indoor Cam E220's 2 K camera sensor to perform adequately at an affordable price, but the limitation to indoor use makes it a poor choice for those looking for a more versatile security camera capable of monitoring both inside and outside their home.
Video Quality
The Eufy Indoor Cam E220 boasts 2K resolution, which should theoretically provide pretty exceptional video clarity. However, in actual practice, the daytime video clarity and color reproduction are not as good as other top-performing cameras with similar 2k resolution camera sensors. The footage lacks finer details that are usually captured by 2K cameras and washes out yellows and light blues.
Where this camera does a better job is in its night vision capabilities. The Eufy Indoor Cam E220 offers a surprising amount of clarity in low-light conditions, allowing you to see crisp facial details even in near darkness. This exceptional night vision performance helps compensate for the shortcomings of video captured during the daytime, making it particularly useful for overnight monitoring.
Monitoring Performance
As an indoor-only camera, the Eufy Indoor Cam E220 inherently has limited monitoring performance and utility compared to outdoor alternatives that can surveil your property's entry points and exterior. This restriction means you'll need a separate solution if you want comprehensive security coverage beyond your home's interior spaces.
This camera is able to detect people from several yards away, and includes most advertised features and detections with your purchase, no subscription required! Although cloud storage is not included, users can pop an SD card in for local storage. Otherwise, you can purchase cloud-based storage via a subscription plan. It's worth noting that the E220 is not capable of facial recognition without the additional base station called a HomeBase, which is sold separately. This base station unlocks additional features like facial recognition and local recordings, which significantly enhance the camera's utility but at an additional upfront cost.
The Eufy Indoor Cam E220 has an impressive range of motion. With 360-degree horizontal panning and 96-degree vertical tilt capabilities, the camera can track motion smoothly across a wide area, and it does track things very smoothly. This functionality effectively expands the coverage area of a single camera, potentially reducing the number of units needed to monitor larger interior spaces.
Ease of Use
The Eufy app interface is the same across all Eufy models. I found it intuitive, making it simple for even tech novices to navigate and use the camera's features. The app provides robust settings for live feeds, allowing users to customize their viewing experience and camera functionality with minimal hassle.
On the downside, the event history feature is rather simple compared to more sophisticated systems. By comparison, I prefer the more robust filtering of events available within the Wyze app on Wyze cameras. This may disappoint users who want greater filtering on more extensive event histories, but it isn't a deal breaker by any means. Another limitation to consider is the power source — it must be hardwired. This restricts placement options to locations near electrical outlets, which is probably a simple task within a home. What the wired design choice does is ensure uninterrupted operation without the need to recharge or replace batteries.
Should You Buy The Eufy Indoor Cam E220?
The Eufy Indoor Cam E220 is best suited for users seeking a reliable indoor security solution and an option to forego the ongoing cost of a subscription service by using an add-on HomeBase. It's particularly well-suited for monitoring spaces where nighttime security is a priority, thanks to its exceptional low-light performance. The pan-and-tilt functionality makes it an excellent choice for covering large rooms from a single vantage point. It is not a bad option for indoor security, but more robust models exist at a similar price, so I wouldn't recommend it over those other options.
What Other Security Cameras Should You Consider?
While the Eufy Indoor Cam E220 offers decent video quality, strong monitoring performance, and good ease of use overall, potential buyers should be aware of its major limitation: indoor-only use. As such, I can't recommend this model over the indoor and outdoor capable Wyze Cam Pan v3, which offers better daytime video quality with a 1080p camera, outdoor versatility, and both panning and tilting capabilities, on top of a host of robust monitoring features.
